Tina Turner 'to become Swiss, give up US passport'

PictureAFP US pop legend Tina Turner, who has been living in Switzerland since 1995, will soon receive Swiss citizenship and will give up her US passport, Swiss media reported Friday.

"I'm very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here. ... I cannot imagine a better place to live," Turner told German language daily Blick.

Turner, 73, who was born Anna Mae Bullock, lives in picturesque town of Kuesnacht, on the shores of Lake Zurich in northern Switzerland, and has passed a local civics test and interview, according to an official announcement published in the Zuerichsee-Zeitung daily.

The woman behind such hits as "Private Dancer", "Simply the Best" and "What's Love Got to Do With It?" will still need a green light from the canton of Zurich as well was federal authorities before she can receive red passport, the two papers reported.

Turner spokeswoman Karin Rhomberg told the Zuerichsee-Zeitung that the singer wanted to "clarify her situation".

"Tina Turner will therefore also give back her US citizenship," she said.

Turner, who has learned German, reportedly moved to Switzerland in 1995 when her longtime partner, German record executive Erwin Bach, was transferred here.

I didn't know that about the gas, I was just concentrating on the food, lol. I walked in a McDonalds in Basel and walked right back out again in shock. They didn't even have Happy Meals, just the regular "meal deals" (which were like $16-20 bucks). I was NOT going to spend that much on a damn McDonald meal. And a Starbucks Latte will set you back 12 Swiss francs there. The prices were ridic.

I heard that the minimum wage there is super high though ($18-20 US) so maybe that's how people do it?

Yeah I'm shocked. I knew this specific part of Europe was expensive but I had no idea It was THIS expensive. How are these people not face down starving in the streets? Lol wow

if you get minimum wage. loan dumping is all the rage, since the borders opened, unfortunately. just recently, in basel, they uncovered a MAJOR case at the exhibition center (they are rebuilding it) where polish workers had no insurance and didn't even get paid on time (or ever in most cases) and if they did, they got like 4$ an hour. but most of it is swept under the rug, excuse you, we have an image to protect and all.
i can't wait to get away obviously.
