Tina Turner 'to become Swiss, give up US passport'

PictureAFP US pop legend Tina Turner, who has been living in Switzerland since 1995, will soon receive Swiss citizenship and will give up her US passport, Swiss media reported Friday.

"I'm very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here. ... I cannot imagine a better place to live," Turner told German language daily Blick.

Turner, 73, who was born Anna Mae Bullock, lives in picturesque town of Kuesnacht, on the shores of Lake Zurich in northern Switzerland, and has passed a local civics test and interview, according to an official announcement published in the Zuerichsee-Zeitung daily.

The woman behind such hits as "Private Dancer", "Simply the Best" and "What's Love Got to Do With It?" will still need a green light from the canton of Zurich as well was federal authorities before she can receive red passport, the two papers reported.

Turner spokeswoman Karin Rhomberg told the Zuerichsee-Zeitung that the singer wanted to "clarify her situation".

"Tina Turner will therefore also give back her US citizenship," she said.

Turner, who has learned German, reportedly moved to Switzerland in 1995 when her longtime partner, German record executive Erwin Bach, was transferred here.

I have both Australian and American citizenship through my parents. I'm going to be a ciztizenship whore thoughm and try to get Irish aswell, through my Grandparents. I don't know whether this is possible though, I'm going to try anyway. I REALLY don't want to go to europe again without a euro passport..

I have a friend like this. He's Canadian but also has Irish citizenship since his parents are from Ireland but he's thinking about trying to get US citizenship as well because his sister lives here now and is married to an American and apparently one of the first people you can petition for citizenship or whatever after you require it are your siblings. Mostly he just thinks its amusing to have multiple passports :-X

he should do it, i have three passports and i feel pretty awesome about it. i think it takes forever to get US citizenship through a sibling though.

Yeah I'm not sure how it works since I was born here and everything but he really wants to do it. :-X

canada by birth, UK by descent and US by marriage. my dad and husband are both irish citizens by descent so i'm hoping i can get in on some of that. no reason, just cool passports. tell your friend to look into the time frame for sibling sponsorship though because it might be easier and faster for him to just meet a nice american and get married.

I have American and Belgian citizenship and I could also get Canadian from my mom...but I thought you could only have 2 citizenships
angelique_grace 25th-Jan-2013 04:58 pm (UTC)
yeah I think it depends on the country, some won't allow you to have more than 2. Like you will be asked to revoke one of your countries..but if I have a direct blood link which I do...well as I said I want to try
