Django Slave Toys Also Banned From Ebay

Don't count on finding one of those discontinued "Django Unchained" slave toys on eBay any time soon, the action figures have now been banned from the auction website.

The Weinstein Company (which produced the film) discontinued the promotional figurines in response to a massive backlash from several African-American advocacy groups.

After the toy company halted production, the toys began to pop up on eBay as "rare" collectibles ... and bids skyrocketed.

But last night, all the listings for the "Django" toys were yanked from the website -- and eBay explained itself to sellers with an email, saying, "Since the manufacturer of this product has discontinued the item’s sale due to its potentially offensive nature, we are not allowing it to be sold on eBay.”

eBay also cautioned the sellers not to re-list the items.

A rep for the auction website confirmed the story, telling us, "These [toys] were removed as they were in violation of our Offensive Materials policy."

Because, as mynamehere07 said, a lot of people believe that if they don't find something offensive then it isn't offensive at all--and because the entirety of American culture is structured to facilitate such a system of thought. Nobody is encouraged to question or interrogate. It's annoying, and I'm not saying it's your or anyone else's obligation to educate such people, but keep in mind that ignorance of that type does not exist in a vacuum.

I will not be nice when people ask DUMB questions concerning race. If you come out the gate saying oh well i don't find this offensive get over it. I will not be nice. If you ask an intelligent question then we can def have a convo. That has yet to happen on ONTD.

Anyone who doesnt' understand why this is offensive deserves whatever is coming to them

..."I don't find this offensive get over it" isn't even a question tho and that wasn't what I was talking about? There aren't a lot of smart questions but there are a lot of admittedly-dumb questions that are still questions as opposed to the dismissive sort of statement (which is also prevalent) that you're citing. Again, I'm not saying those people are owed an education, I just don't think it hurts to ignore their ignorance instead of biting their heads off for it. /shrug

Okay then a statement rather than a question..does it really matter? The point is belittling it is why we get annoyed.

Are you black? If someone was attacking your family or saying nasty things..I doubt you would ignore them. The same applies here.

Except my entire previous comment essentially consisted of my pointing out that there's a difference between someone saying "I don't really understand why this is offensive idgi?" and "someone attacking your family or saying nasty things".

I don't think you got my family analogy....that's fine.

The dolls aren't being made anymore and that's all I care about.
