tbh i wasn't really wanting a new love interest for Mary this season.

i would've preferred if in s4 she was more focused on herself/her son/Downton rather than them throwing in a new romance for her already.

So I am new to downton abbey, and I marathoned it on hulu and online, but when do the seasons run in the US? I saw season 3 episodes on PBS the other day, is season 3 airing now in the states? when will season 4 air? I am so confused.

Season 3 is airing now in the US. Presumably, Season 4 will air in September in the UK, which is when it usually runs. Season 4 will then be premiered in the US the following January.
Everyone just streams that shit though.

Yes, season 3 is airing now in the states. They've only shown 3 episodes thus far I believe.

Tbh part of me just wishes they'd recast Matthew with someone better looking than Dan just to be jerks. Besides, I'd rather hear about a new man for Edith or, more importantly, Thomas.

I think she'll mourn Matthew for a while but I think there's going to be a time jump between s3 and s4, so I could see Mary being ready to move on by like 4x04 or something.

Richard Armitage definitely for first choice. Second would be Matthew MacFadyan who did an excellent Mr. Darcy.

Matthew MacFadyen is the lead in BBC's Ripper Street, which is airing right now. You would think there would be no overlap with the filming schedules (I think Ripper Street is only 8 eps), but I thought Stevens said it took 10(!) months to film Downton, which, if that's true, that is a pretty ridiculous schedule for so few episodes. That's worse than US TV filming schedules, with a typical 20+ eps in a season.

Good riddance, I really can't say I'm sorry to see his dull ass leave. I would love to see Mary end up with somebody a bit more exciting, like a James Purefoy-type as a diamond in the rough in a dinner jacket. This series really needs some shaking up if they want to keep my attention.

Mmmm... Purefoy. I think I'm going to have to re-watch Rome sometime soon...



Obvs Purefoy is never happening though. Maybe Eoin Macken would be good? Santiago Cabrera? IDK, just ticking off the boxes from the Merlin cast tbh...
