Why does Martin Freeman's face look like that (well other than the obvious reasons)? Click the cut to find out! The National Television Awards were today and I have a list of the winners for your enjoyment!

And totally sure Martin's trolling, he's most likely aware that his expression a couple years back went viral on tumblr
And the Cucumbersalad shunning is pure joy.
And tbh, as much as I love Elementary, it's not the kind of show that awards shows like and I think most people know that. So I don't think we'll be weeping and gnashing our teeth come awards season.
Also, members from all three of the losing fandoms flooded the Downton Abbey tag (also the DowntoWn Abbey tag because they didn't even know the actual show that won, apparently) with bullshit and hate.
So yeah, it is pretty funny and I will continue to laugh and laugh and laugh when fandoms show their asses.
So freaking happy that Colin won, yay British public! I want so many great things for him and the rest of this cast, I'm going to miss them so much.
Happy that Downton won too. I love DW but the quality has just diminished recently for me, so don't think they deserved the awards this year. Is Martin Freeman serious with that face? His show really isn't great /sorrynotsorry.
Forgot to mention, so glad that Corrie did so well this year! Alan's worked really hard (the sl has been genuinely upsetting), but I sad that Natalie didn't win her category too!

Do you really think Downton won due to quality assessment? I suspect it was more to do with the fact that all the best drama contenders have considerable sized fanbases but there is a big overlap between the Sherlock, Merlin and DW fans which meant vote splitting would damage those shows' chances. And while there was a lot of united feeling about Colin there wasn't really as much about the show Merlin because even most hardcore Merlin fans admire the actors but frequently curse the writers. If the nominees had been three popular period piece posh soaps plus one popular sci-fi/fantasy nerd type show I expect Downton's chances would have likewise suffered from vote splitting and a win by the sci-fi/fantasy fan attracting show would have produced the same kind of "aw man, I would have preferred any of the other three!" kind of groaning from many posh period soap lovers.
Martin Freeman was joking around. A couple of the Merlin guys were doing the same sort of thing - pulling faces at the camera or tweeting jokes about how of course they can't compete with slow motion cricket. Downton has won so much over the years I imagine they can deal with a bit of light ribbing from colleagues at a not so serious award show.
public tbh, I don't even know if these awards are popular elsewhere.
I see what you mean about the tv show genre/audience split but still Doctor Who won In years where Merlin and Ashes to Ashes were also in the category, so in the end I think It just comes down to what show you've preferred this past year. I'm not really a tumblr stan, so idk if there was any sort of 'tactical' voting going on in the categories or whatever, but I just know that I was more engrossed in Downton than DW, Merlin or Sherlock this year though I watch all of them (and I have voted for the first two in other years). I love Merlin, but like you said the writing isn't without fault, so it's not surprising to me that if they were going to win it would be through Colin. I love Doctor Who and used to enjoy Sherlock but over-exposure etc. has kinda ruined it for me right now.
Lol, I'm really not pressed at all on behalf of Downton, it was obvious to me that Merlin's cast were joking around (I laughed!) and with Martin Freeman I literally can never judge whether he's being serious or not so...
