SXSW Rejected Lindsay Lohan's 'Canyons' Over 'Quality Issues'

A festival insider tells THR the Paul Schrader-directed thriller has "an ugliness and a deadness to it."
Are there no film festivals willing to welcome Lindsay Lohan’s The Canyons?

Sources tell THR that SXSW has joined Sundance in rejecting the erotic thriller. A festival insider tells THR that the Bret Easton Ellis-penned, Paul Schrader-directed Canyons — which features tons of nudity, including au naturel shots of Lohan — suffers from significant “quality issues.”
Says a festival insider, “It’s got an ugliness and a deadness to it.” Canyons producer Braxton Pope says the filmmakers are still awaiting official word from the festival.

That times article really made me wonder what it is about Lindsay that lets her pull people in the way she does. She must have some amazing, amazing charisma in person or something.

Fuckin' I know, right? Her acting has no charisma, her interviews have no charisma, her personality ain't much to offer... like wtf? I know they knew this would get their film extra press but really?

In the times article they seemed so desperate to have/keep her on board, and even talked about working with her again after the (seemingly) difficult canyons shoot was over. She must emit some crazy pheromones or something, idek.

I figured they were desperate to keep her on their incredibly low-budget film to use her notoriety to bring a lot of attention to the film.

Yeah, this film starring Jane-Nobody would get zero attention and make zero money.

As a full-on trainwreck, they'll probably make money when it's all said and done.

Yeah I could understand it more if the results of their efforts with her were worthwhile, but nothing she's done in like a decade (lol it's been nine years since Mean Girls) has really benefited from her participation except for the stan/trainwreck extra attention factor.

My theory is that it's creepy guys that are attracted to her daddy issues that think they can "save" or "fix" her but really just end up exploiting her more.

pity?

iirc a few interviews have talked about how they are surprised at how magnetic she is irl. You definitely don't see it on film but who knows.
dnttllhrry 23rd-Jan-2013 06:04 pm (UTC)
Her magnetism is probably the cocaine.
bostongirl2003 23rd-Jan-2013 06:58 pm (UTC)
I think that "magnetism" is something that's more projected by the people who meet her, because they already have preconceived notions of her (at least at one point) being successful and/or talented.
ediesedgwick 23rd-Jan-2013 07:01 pm (UTC)
idk, that might be true for some people, but I know I've read at least one where the interviewer was really surprised because she seems like such a mess irl. I just think that society glamorizes some symptoms of mental illness so some people are drawn to that.

fame/celebrity? That's a sort of power. And wealth gets mixed in there too. I think a lot of people are attracted to that.

she's a narcissist. they're really, really good at that.
