SXSW Rejected Lindsay Lohan's 'Canyons' Over 'Quality Issues'

Are there no film festivals willing to welcome Lindsay Lohan’s The Canyons?

Sources tell THR that SXSW has joined Sundance in rejecting the erotic thriller. A festival insider tells THR that the Bret Easton Ellis-penned, Paul Schrader-directed Canyons — which features tons of nudity, including au naturel shots of Lohan — suffers from significant “quality issues.”
Says a festival insider, “It’s got an ugliness and a deadness to it.” Canyons producer Braxton Pope says the filmmakers are still awaiting official word from the festival.

schrader should have let soderbergh do an edit. i mean, given the "talent" in question it might still have been a miss but schrader's ego probably screwed him over.

yep. plus that article mentioned that he was never regarded as a good director, and he's probably even worse now that he's older, and on an ego trip on top of it...I'm guessing the movie is going to be one step up in quality from a softcore porno. maybe.

Ugliness and deadness... those words are not surprising after reading the article. I think the vision of the co-creators is flawed. It's much like when someone on TV thinks torturing a character or killing a character off in a way calculated to piss off and upset the audience equals automatic dramatic legitimacy. (I am thinking of RTD here.)

porn stars never really do. traci lords came the closest, but ultimately they'll always be treated as a novelty and a curiosity by the "mainstream" directors who hire them. i'd actually have been kind of pissed if james deen really crossed over because so many women have tried it and not really succeeded.

I read a recent interview of his in which he even says his own acting in this movie sucked (after he watched a clip of himself), and that he doesn't expect to get any other mainstream roles or callbacks.

In the times article they seemed so desperate to have/keep her on board, and even talked about working with her again after the (seemingly) difficult canyons shoot was over. She must emit some crazy pheromones or something, idek.
