Barely Relevant White Boy Goes To Africa
British actor Tom Hiddleston has embarked on a trip to West Africa to witness how projects by the United Nations CHildren's Fund (Unicef) have helped locals.
The Avengers star travelled to Guinea this week (21 Jan 13) to visit communities which have been given a boost by the organisation.
Hiddleston met with youngsters at a school in the capital city of Conakry, and he took to his Twitter.com page to upload a photograph of his visit.
In an accompanying post, he writes, "Children at Tinafan, Unicef-supported school for the circus arts in Conakry, who put on an incredible show."
The actor has promised to document his whole trip in posts on Twitter.

I'm quite glad to not be on twitter or tumblr and just stan for him from the safety of lj, it's saner that way.
And before anyone gets sneery about ontd, at least no one here's tried to hoax him or got his initials tattooed on them.
i have nothing against helping others. i have everything against helping others for pr.
(does that mean he's done on Thor 2 already??)
And most of that white saviour stuff is people with the best intentions so...
1D stans need to up their game. Seriously.
You know that there was bound to be something to make ontd hate him, it was just a matter of time.
I don't really care tbh, he seems super excited about it and aware enough about his surroundings, hopefully, not to portray himself as a ~white saviour.
that's nice

cool i guess
did they need to send a barely relevant celebrity over there to see that the project was going well?
Example A:
who is she btw?

i honestly don't get why.
i had a catchy title and everything.
1) tom hiddleston and jazz handing african!
2) tom hiddleston and solemn africans~
However, what would help African nations better is if celebrities (even if their publicists like to plant dating stories about Chastain) visit tourist sights and encourage people to visit Africa~
That is not a good way of looking at things. Yes, they are not suffering from kwashiorkor. but, they are poor in relation to their country - if that makes sense. There was a doc on BBC called poor kids and another one about food banks which both shed light on the issue. There is a clip of poor kids online: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00hfbk
And the food bank one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01nqcb
aka it's one of those situations that can't be won.
i don't understand this argument. Poor people in Britain live in council flats and get government assistance. Poverty there means that the children may have to settle for a second hand iPhone 4 instead of getting the new 5.
He was good in Les Mis, fingers crossed that he'll be at the Oscars/more visible now.
