Kelly Clarkson Did NOT Lip Synch at Inauguration: Rep



Kelly Clarkson did not lip-synch during her Inaugural Ceremony performance of “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” on Monday.

In the wake of the revelation that Beyonce decided at the last minute to sing the national anthem to a pre-recorded track, questions were raised about whether Clarkson’s own patriotic performance was lip-synched.

But a rep for the onetime “American Idol” winner says Clarkson sang live.

A spokesperson for the United States Marine Band also said on Tuesday that the band played their instruments live, contrary to some media reports.

Recording the ceremony’s music ahead of time is standard procedure, given the wide range of circumstances that could pose problems for performances during the program.

it's difficult as fuck because alllll professional singers oversing it and embellish it. if they sang it like everyone did in elementary school it's incredibly easy but boring.

that's their choice, but it doesn't make it a difficult song to sing. that makes no damn sense

It's not even just embellishment. Singing the song live and acapella usually requires the song to be projected, which requires a mix of both head voice and chest voice. Since the song has such a wide range that moves in and out of head register and chest register so often, it takes a lot of skill to pull that off well without background music to help you stay on key or to help conceal any sour notes. The song also requires a lot of breath support, even without embellishments.

As a singer, I totally agree. Not to mention in a huge stadium like that it's very hard to hear yourself because of the echoes. Even Mariah and Whitney have lip synced TSSB. All singers know how hard that song is to sing.

Actually it's usually more impressive when people tone the national anthem down and just sing it purely. lmao I literally cannot people are saying the national anthem is a hard song to sing. That shouldn't matter anyway. Her job it to sing.
