It came across like Rod was gay, but reluctant to admit it. When he thought Ebony was trans* he played it off like he was changing his sexuality for her, but when it turned out Ebony wasn't actually trans* he was immediately disappointed. He then tried to act like his interest stemmed from her paying for his cell phone bill, even though, up until the reveal of her being a woman, he was madly into the idea of being with her.
