Downton Abbey "Poses A Threat To The Left" Because It Portrays Nice Rich People, So Says Fox News

The popularity of Downton Abbey in America is a threat to progressives because it celebrates rich people, according to FOX & Friends:

“Rich people, powerful people, in America today, are reviled,” Varney said. “They’re dismissed as fat cats who don’t pay their fair share.” The general consensus is that “rich people are evil.”

Then comes along Downton Abbey… making rich people seem nice. The characters in the show are kind and generous. “They create jobs, for heaven’s sake. They’re classy, they’ve got style.”

“It poses a threat to the left, doesn’t it?” he asked. Because the left says we must hate rich people.

won't someone plz think of all the poor rich people in america??

my friend has joked that modern family is a ploy by the right to make the 99% look more relatable lol

Which is interesting & part of a larger conversation of how we only want to see "rich" people on TV, because if any of those characters had dual incomes they'd nearly be 1%ers. As it stands they are probably top 5%ers.

yeah, i wonder if it's because of what they show us or is it what we want to see. I mean, there are very few poor people on tv. I find a huge contrast between US & UK soap operas. In the US, they're always really wealthy, even if they're pretending they're not (I'm looking at you Bradys). They're always in ultra glamourous gowns and perfect makeup. Meanwhile, in the UK there's always wearing the same clothes over and over and many characters work in factories.

It's just something I wonder about.

oops yeah, i totally meant to say to make the 1% look more relatable, not the 99%!

i must be super-poor cause i always considered the families on that show to be rich, or at least upper-middle-class lol

Comments like this make me wonder: what do you want? Do you want to make the rich poorer like you? Or do you want to become richer like them? Either way, you are losing.

Where I live the president says he's the president of the poor. And he's no lying. 14 years later, people are poorer than ever. We only have super inflation that makes it look like people are more wealthy because they receive liquid money all of the time, but it goes as it comes.

So, the issue for me it's not how much money you have, but what you do with it, and just saying "oh the poor rich people" is over simplistic and quite inconsequential.
