idk, I think that was kind of the point.

Like I agree that making him a Republican of all things was kind of ham-fisted--it could have been something as simple and inconsequential as him not liking a singer, or him maybe being religious, or something like that--but the point was that his political party was a scapegoat for Hannah not to face the fact that someone who likes her could dislike her work. She can't face that maybe she's just not talented, that someone who doesn't like her just hates her, they hate her work. Like it's an interesting idea but yeah I thought it was a little bit too over-the-line obvious and ham-fisted to work accurately. Hannah is just a theme park caricature of all of Lena's flaws and it's getting kind of exhausting.
