How "Scream 3" became "The Following"


The mind of an artist can be a very dark attic. They go imagining things and keeping it there. Making a huge quilt of ideas. Till, one day, when everything is tied up, they bring it all down and show us.

In a recent interview to Entertainment Tonight, Kevin Williamson revealed major details about his original ideas to Scream 3, that will never see the light of the day in its primary form - it will be called The Following.


"Back when I was researching Danny Rolling, I wanted to write about a serial killer on a college campus, and an FBI agent hunting down a college professor. But then I decided to do Scream."

That movie was beyond awful...IT WAS ONE OF THE WORST MOVIES EVER!

Scream 4 was awful.

Emma fucking Roberts was a mess.

Had Hayden been the lead, it would have been infinitely better.

It really was. Emma Roberts cannot act and when it was revealed she was the killer and tried to act all hard, everyone in the theater laughed. After it came out, so many people here talked about how it was the best one after the first movie and I thought lol no.

The director of the Stab 3 movie is the killer. He is Sidney's half brother. Sidney's mother rejected and basically abandoned him so he got pissed and started killing everyone. He tells her he convinced Billy (Sidney's boyfriend and one of the killers from the first movie) to kill his/Sidney's mom, which basically sets up the entire franchise.

I'm excited about this, but also worry. I only worry because FX is developing a series based on the Chelsea Cain Archie / Gretchen novels where Gretchen is the Beauty Killer and captures Archie and tortures him. I know if it ever gets off the ground, it will be compared to this because in the books Gretchen builds a following and becomes a cult figure. She also people working for her who go and kill.
