Pop Icon Cyndi Lauper Reveals Battle With Altitude Sickness

Pop star CYNDI LAUPER is battling a bout of altitude sickness after flying in to Utah for the Sundance Film Festival on Friday (18Jan13).

The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun hitmaker is booked to perform at an event for America's AMC and WEtv networks, but she is struggling to overcome an illness as she prepares for the gig.
In a series of Twitter.com posts, she writes, "I'm in Park City, Utah rt (right) now. Going to sing at the AMC/WEtv party tonight. Got a little of that altitude sickness. Trying to eat vegan."

The Sundance Film Festival founder Robert Redford launched the 2013 event on Thursday (17Jan13). The annual bash runs until 27 January (13).

Probably being in Park City. It's at around 7,000 ft, which can definitely cause altitude sickness.

Seems like a few people here are confused. I had altitude sickness really bad when I first moved to this location (over 7000 ft). Nobody told me it could happen or was worse for people with iron deficiency anemia (which I have). The effects of altitude sickness aren't immediate (unless a person is mountain climbing and elevating/descending in the same day); they are usually felt around day 3 and last for 4-6 weeks. I'm suspicious of anyone who says they experienced the worst of it immediately and it went away after a few days.

It's no joke.

I dunno, I and most people I was with felt it within a day. We landed at night and most of us woke in the morning feeling it. It wasn't hardcore, just a little headache, a little dizzy, sometimes nauseous. We had all adjusted by the 3rd day. We weren't there for longer than 4 days though, we moved on to anotehr city, so maybe it could have gotten worse over time.

that sounds antithetical to everything I've read about it, but who knows. I think when you say "it wasn't hardcore", that's the key. Serious altitude sickness feels hardcore ;) I was laid up in bed for 2 days straight and couldn't eat more than a banana and gatorade. It felt like the Norwalk virus (awful stomach flu - nausea + gastro-intestinal issues). It took me more than 6 weeks to feel like I could breathe properly. It was horrific, thank goodness you didn't get it worse than you did.
