Moffat writes Doctor Who, so no wonder Sherlock seems so cold and 'other-worldly'. THIS Sherlock in NYC is normal, he's got issues, and he doesn't hide his emotions and come across as a sociopath. It makes the character so much more interesting. The writing is finding its feet, it's not fair to judge the show when it's in the early season, and the early episodes are always going to be difficult because they didn't know if they were getting a full season order until episode 7 or 8. You have to go in to it with an open mind and not compare it to every other adaption.
