Not so hair-raising! Zayn Malik ditches the quiff and opts for a shaggy flat 'do in Japan

He's been sporting his hair-raising trademark quiff for the past few months. (Hahaha. What? It was gone forever ago.)
But Zayn Malik appeared to have ditched his signature look as One Direction continued their promotional tour of Japan on Friday.
Gone was the 20-year-old singer's gravity defying barnet and in its place was a much flatter, slightly fluffy 'do.

Making the Bradford-born heartthrob look much younger, Zayn's new style marked a departure from his former punky look. (Hhaha "punky")

And it would seem the teen idol was going for a more clean-cut look in general, keeping his numerous tattoos covered in a simple white T-shirt and checked shirt.

In spite of Zayn ditching his famous quiff, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson were sporting substantially hair-raising styles as the band continued promoting second album Take Me Home in Toyko, Japan.

Louis, 21, kept it casual in a denim jacket and simple burgundy top, while Niall, 19, opted for a grey and black top and black skinny jeans.

Liam Payne, 19, wore a matching top to Niall, while Harry Styles, 18, sported his trademark curly locks and chose a simple navy and black ensemble for the group's Japan photocall.

The quintet seemed to be in great spirits, throwing their arms up in the air in delight as they posed for the cameras, before being presented with a large bouquet of flowers by a lady in traditional Japanese dress.

Niall appears to be having a whale of a time as he soaks up the sights and sounds of Tokyo, and has made sure to keep his Twitter followers updated with his every move.

Posting a snap of the stunning skyline view from his window, Niall wrote: 'The view from the room is unbelievable! Beautiful city!'

The Irish singer also shared a snap of a plate of traditional Japanese food, tweeting: 'Amazing sashimi we had yesterday! Incredible !' (Aww... I was hoping he'd pull another "poverty is real!" thing)

And the star already seems to be besotted with the south east-Asian country.
In a series of posts, he wrote: 'I love this country! such a laugh!
'Airport was crazy! Big love to japanese fans.
'japan! This place is so cool! Can't wait for next few days ! Gona be fun!'

One Direction made sure to embrace their new surroundings earlier this week by wearing bright red kimonos as they made their way through arrivals at Narita Airport in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Greeted by a crowd of screaming fans, the boys took time out to sign autographs and chat to the hoards of fans waiting for them.
One Direction's trip to Japan comes shortly after a whistlestop tour of Ghana as part of Comic Relief. (I've been trying to forget that ever happened...)
