Kate Middleton Resurfaces at Local Starbucks

One grande decaf skinny latte for the Duchess, pronto! Last Friday, Jan. 11, a pregnant Kate Middleton quietly emerged from Kensington Palace for a very hush-hush jaunt: A walk through Kensington Gardens with dog Lupo followed by a drop-in at a nearby Starbucks!

Escorted by a security guard, the 31-year-old Duchess "looked beautiful," an onlooker tells Us Weekly. "Her hair was done nicely and she had a scarf, lovely long coat and boots on." Still under wraps, although Middleton is now in her second trimester? Her baby bump. "She was wrapped up warm, so I couldn't see the bump," the observer explains.

As the security guard waited outside with Lupo, Prince William's wife went inside and placed her order herself: Her decaf drink, plus a cookie. "Kate was smiling," the observer continues, adding that she "paid with a Starbucks card, which she swiped herself."

Thus armed with provisions, the expectant royal took Lupo's leash back from the security guard (the pooch is "so cute and well-behaved," the spy says), and the trio continued on their walk.

"She's a regular," a Starbucks staffer tells Us of the unassuming Duchess. This past Monday, she and William, 30, announced they "are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July," adding that "The Duchess's condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital last month." (Middleton's first trimester was marred by acute morning sickness.)

Idk, maybe I'm going crazy (but not THAT crazy), but I am finding it hard to believe she had that HG business rather than just really bad morning sickness. The HG accounts that have come out from people/commenters since then sound like hell (case in point: the commenter below whose friend's doctors have suggested termination of the pregnancy).

Honestly and with the disclaimer that I am obviously not a doctor, etc., Kate's situation doesn't seem to be that severe with the exception of the hospital stay, which could happen to anyone who gets dehydrated enough.

Glad to hear it sounds like she's out of the worst of hyperemisis. The stories my mom tells from when she was pregnant with me and had that...just...yikes.

One of my friends is going through it right now. It SUCKS. :(
greyfilm 28th-Jan-2013 04:53 pm (UTC)
Just out of curiosity, how long has she had it?
annie_oakley 18th-Jan-2013 05:55 pm (UTC)
She looks good! She's lucky. My HG didn't improve until around 24 weeks, but I was still probably throwing up at least once a week until the baby was born.

good lord, what an inane article.

Glad she's doing well, I have a friend who is so ill with this right now she's been in the hospital with a central line and getting all of her nutrition from IV fluids. She's so sick her doctors were telling her she should consider terminating the pregnancy.
tempertemper 18th-Jan-2013 07:12 pm (UTC)
So sorry for your friend. I suffered from terrible morning sickness, but that is just awful :(
voyevoda 18th-Jan-2013 06:01 pm (UTC)
...paid with a Starbucks card, which she swiped herself.

In Canada they're swiped on the side of the till, so swiping it yourself would look damn silly. Do they do it diff. at England S'bucks? I don't recall from when I was there.
april_in_paris 18th-Jan-2013 07:27 pm (UTC)
You scan it in the same unit you would put your debit/credit card.
It's a weird detail include though.
voyevoda 18th-Jan-2013 07:29 pm (UTC)
That makes far more sense. I was imagining her leaning over the counter and swiping down the side of the till herself. :S

Aww yeaa, Starbucks Cookies.

I have a "gold" Starbucks card since I'm a gold~ member, and I never use the physical card. I just use my Starbucks app to pay all the time and leave a cash tip tbh.

Anyways, as much as I like a free drink/food at every 12 drinks now, fuck them for not making soy or syrups free anymore. Also, it should be a free drink/food at every 8 drinks tyvm.
misscrystal25 18th-Jan-2013 06:47 pm (UTC)
Exactly how much Starbucks does one need to consume to become a gold member? Genuinely curious and not willing to Google it if you have the answer.
beaddddddsss 18th-Jan-2013 06:50 pm (UTC)
30 purchases (drinks, food, mints, w/e) a year makes you a gold member. I go to Starbucks once a week, so hay~ might as well get discounts and free drinks. Anything below 30 purchases a year is green membership.
zanknits 18th-Jan-2013 09:56 pm (UTC)
yeah I gave up my gold card after the soy takedown. I only had the card because it saved me 60 cents on my soy frapps and soy hot chocolate...
