I know...I get it that they had great phone conversations and stuff, but I can't help thinking of my previous instant-messenger friendships. You talk to someone just fine when you can't see them face to face, then when you finally meet them, it's like two awkward penguins staring at each other with nothing to say. Anonymity and lack of eye contact makes it so much easier to open up to someone. Like you, I can't see their relationship progessing if only for the reasons I mentioned above. It makes for a cute (ok, not after last episode) storyline, but that's pretty much it. 2 damaged, antisocial people like them can't really pursue a serious long-term relationship without some serious therapy.
