Youtube's top fitness guru, Cassey Ho, goes in on Honey Boo Boo and her family

Hey guys!

I am loving the new HIITilates series and looks like you are too!! I am excited for your enthusiasm as I build out this new format! I always knew you guys liked your cardio so I had to figure out a way to make it fun and exciting and excruciating without counting (boring) or timers (boring). The new moves challenge me just as much as they challenge you – so great job for keeping up!!!

I am between the Bay Area and Palm Springs the next couple days! This Sunday I will be teaching a group of young kids how to have fun while staying active at President Clinton’s Health Matters event. I don’t think I will get to see him though! Boo. But oh well, maybe one of these days I can meet Michelle Obama and work with her on educating our youth on nutrition and exercise. I honestly think that if we get em young and get em thinking about food the right way from the beginning, we can prevent obesity, hospital visits, and all types of illnesses. I GENUINELY believe that food is your medicine. Preventative medicine is the best kind you can be prescribed :)

OMG and speaking of kids and obesity and food and….

She's just concerned u guys!!!Collapse )

You can talk about fitness and eating right without calling someone out specifically and basically mocking them while pretending to be OH SO CONCERNED. News flash: fat people know they're fat and their eating habits are bad. It isn't easy to stop, and it isn't right to shame them because I'm sure they get shit every. single. day. It doesn't help anyone. This article was just about making fun of them and getting attention - not because OMG you want to help them make better choices. No, you really don't. You want to feel superior.

There are a lot of complex issues concerning food and weight, and she really just comes off incredibly ignorant and it pains me that so many people think it's okay to shame someone just because of their weight. That's why I don't like this show. I think they seem like a sweet family, but really you know the network and everyone is just putting them on there to mock and make people like this girl feel super special because she's skinny and probably has the money/time to constantly work out and make healthy meals.

Ugh I fucking hate this attitude that fitness is a virtue and you are a better person if you work out and "eat right".
lowlighter 18th-Jan-2013 02:46 am (UTC)
omg THIS.
milkradio 18th-Jan-2013 07:25 am (UTC)
I strive to be healthy and fit, but I soooo agree with this. So many fitness tumblrs pull this shit and I have to unfollow them because it's unbelievably obnoxious how high and mighty these dicks get about how many hours they put in at the gym or how ~omg clean~ they eat all the time as if they need to brag about it. idk, sometimes it seems like it's the new thinspo, but instead of talking about restricting all the time, it's talking about working out for hours and hours and eating like a piece of fruit with green tea (SO HYDRATING1!!1!) as if that's so much healthier. It's like a lot of these people running these blogs have disordered views on eating and exercise, but by hiding behind a "health/fitness" label, they get away with broadcasting these views to other impressionable people without being called out as promoting disordered views...? idk how to explain it. My faves are fitforinfinity and size10plz because they don't obsess over the scale or calories and emphasize self care, feeling good, and being healthy and active at every size, which I think it's refreshing and actually takes mental health into the equation in a nice way.

You are a better person if you feed your kids right vs. feeding them crap, though.
williammiller 21st-Jan-2013 05:19 am (UTC)
Seriously. Her attitude comes off holier than thou with that she wrote.
teri_lynn 18th-Jan-2013 01:48 am (UTC)
Obviously she has not watched earlier episodes because I think June got down to right at 300 pounds, and if she's telling her to lose 200 pounds, that puts Mama June into the very underweight category at 100 pounds. I think instead of going on about it on YouTube or whatever, maybe she should grow a set and actually talk to Honey Boo Boo's family.
mana_runigha 18th-Jan-2013 01:49 am (UTC)
I am walking into this post because it was about Honey Boo Boo. I do not know who Cassey Ho is.

That being said, Cassey has a valid point in her rant. I've only seen a small bit of HBB, but last night's Thanksgiving episode was the first full episode for me. I found the eating habits quite gross. The cranberry sauce was utterly disgusting and they need to lay off the butter. I think people can eat what they want, however, children don't really have the options of doing/eating what they want. It's important Alana learns proper nutrition and it isn't 3 whole cans of cranberry sauce.

The family has stated they are wanting to lose weight, but that's not going to happen unless they can develop a proper diet. Exercise will help burn fat, but a healthy diet is key. I really can't buy the excuse of income being the issue with this family anymore. They have made more money on an episode than I have in the two years I worked at my most recent job. Their unhealthy eating is due to bad habits, if not entertainment value which is worrisome, that need to be broken and they should have the money to afford healthier food options.

I'm new to ONTD, but I'm just surprised with the comments I've seen.
soho 18th-Jan-2013 01:56 am (UTC)
Go ahead and find them disgusting, whatever. The point is that she talks about wanting to help these people yet she really doesn't want to. She posts a picture of a little kid and talks about how gross she is to look at. How is that helping her lose weight? And completely ignoring the complex issues involved in weight loss and getting back on track. And it isn't your family - it isn't your life. You don't have to shame someone specifically to get your point across. I hardly doubt Honey Boo Boo and her family are going to influence a whole generation. Why don't we look at the bigger issues instead of ONE family who haven't done anything to this girl.

Concern trolling is not cute. Worry about your health and your life. You aren't shaming them to make them healthier - you're doing it to feel superior.

fucking amen to this fabulous comment
mana_runigha 18th-Jan-2013 09:05 am (UTC)
As I mentioned, I've never heard of Cassey Ho until this post, so I'm entering as someone reading this with no background knowledge of the author, assuming they're genuinely concerned about Alana. I thought she had some valid points here, is all.
nicolesnitchie 18th-Jan-2013 01:50 am (UTC)
i like honey boo boo i guess whatever, but i'm sick of obesity apologists.
flumes 18th-Jan-2013 01:52 am (UTC)
lol shut up
sevenbeat 18th-Jan-2013 01:52 am (UTC)
her videos/workouts arent good and she has an annoying voice.
flumes 18th-Jan-2013 01:53 am (UTC)
concern trolling is rly interesting

i mean idk what to say about this issue because obesity is a problem but it could be gone about in a completely different way and people need to be told there's nothing to be ashamed of if you are fat. at the end of the day it's really nobody's business. it becomes less about health and more about appearance because everyone is not 100% healthy and that's just a fact.

really, no one needs your concern.

oh and i'm completely sure most people are not happy with their bodies being like this so. also take into account their income before this all happened.

and the biggest loser IS incredibly unhealthy for you so???? like

Yes because crash dieting shows are the answer.
tundrabeast 18th-Jan-2013 02:03 am (UTC)
I've been eating super healthy for 2 weeks but I got super depressed today and consumed a packet of McCoys and a whole tube of hobnob creams so that was a fucking waste. What is the point?
milkradio 18th-Jan-2013 07:28 am (UTC)
One day of eating like that isn't going to automatically ruin anything. You can always start fresh at your next meal and get back into eating healthily. You're allowed to enjoy junk food, man. I made smores tonight and loved every bite of them, dude.
koboldmaki 18th-Jan-2013 12:30 pm (UTC)
the point is that you ate super healthy for two weeks and can go on eating well tomorrow, stop thinking in such strict categories of all or nothing.
ludmi_83 18th-Jan-2013 02:13 am (UTC)
I didn't read all but she is kinda of right. Anyway I love her pilates videos, they are good
delleve 18th-Jan-2013 02:20 am (UTC)
I fucking hate the entire Fight Against Childhood Obesity! bullshit. What you're saying with that:

1) You're making fat kids a target. Seriously, the very LAST thing that fat kids need is the fucking government putting a target on their heads and saying you're the problem. Your body is the problem. If you're interested in health then you are clearly not giving a shit about mental health. You're not calling it The Fight Against Unhealthy Food or The Fight For Healthy and Happy Kids or the Fight Against Horrendous School Lunches or The Fight For Reinstating Recess. You're not making it about health: you're making fat kids a target.

2) You're essentially equating thin to health. When that's not true. You know damn fucking well the skinny kids are eating the same disgusting slop many schools serve for lunch as the fat kids. What about them? Is it not a problem as long as they're thin? Wrong message. Wrooooooong message.

3) I can't even lost anymore I'm too pissed tbh.
famineaffair 18th-Jan-2013 02:32 am (UTC)
obesity is a problem in the US. people are too stupid to do anything about this themselves and they've made it pretty obvious. have you ever been outside the country? the difference between average weights of people in europe and here is pretty disturbing.
delleve 18th-Jan-2013 03:01 am (UTC)
"people are too stupid to do anything about this themselves and they've made it pretty obvious"

oic it's a problem of being stupid and not a problem of the way the food industry operates here or the frequency of poverty and food deserts or anything else that actually impacts what food is readily available for a lot of people in this country. It's because they're stupid! Enlightening, thanks for the education bb.
gypsycaravan 18th-Jan-2013 05:12 am (UTC)
really not okay, dude. you are having trouble understanding why people in this post are upset with cassey bc you're part of the problem. you are generalizing and shaming all fat people and assuming all fat people are unhealthy. this kind of attitude and thinking does nothing to solve the "problem" and only makes people feel worse about themselves and contributes to body issues in our society. if you really cared about ~obesity in the US~, you'd bother to understand the complexities behind many processed diets (ie poverty) instead of just calling fat people stupid. stop being classist, it's not cute.
she_can_rock 18th-Jan-2013 04:38 am (UTC)
she even says I don’t look at body weight as a measure of someone’s sucess, education, or worth – but just as an indicator of healthiness

between_lights 18th-Jan-2013 02:54 am (UTC)
if she thinks that they're the ones who are gross human beings, then she needs to reevaluate her priorities in life.

btw, anyone know of any good healthy eating tumblr blogs that don't encourage borderline disordered eating or act all holier-than-thou and ~omgz concerned!!!111 like this chick clearly does?
milkradio 18th-Jan-2013 07:30 am (UTC)
Maybe this one?

"For those of us lucky enough to understand, we see the show as entertainment. But for others who don’t know better, they may see this as okay to do since TV is showing it."

If anyone watching this saw the way the cooked and thought it was a perfectly good way of eating, chances are they were already eating that way to begin with. No one's tuning in to get culinary lessons from Mama June.
