While the film has obviously found its supporters, backlash against i continues to grow. Yesterday, director Kathryn Bigelow defended her film from charges it promotes torture in an Op-Ed for th Los Angeles Times Bigelow claimed artistic license writing, "those of us who work in the arts know that depiction is not endorsement." While this is obviously true, the film goes further than depiction. As Deepa Kumar wrote he film promotes extra judicial killing and the drone warfare that has become the hallmark of the Obama administration's "war on terror."

lol, accurate. Even after all this time and all the posts I've seen, I don't understand how people can be so small-minded.

Did you see the movie? Because, I gotta say, didn't make me like the Americans' techniques too much either. It's not exactly one of those old-school war movies. Nobody comes out looking too good IMO. I couldn't believe articles that said this movie was pro-torture; I didn't feel they watched the same movie I did.

this! i think people got out of it what they wanted. people who were pro-torture going in came out that way some with people who were islamaphobic. i couldn't believe the americans but i went in thinking it terrible we just killed osama without a trial or anything so yeah.

In general I think movies have to careful about how much they show of things like torture and rape. Even though I think it's true to art to be realistic and show the suffering of the victim unfortunately there are always sickos who love it.
I think that's where the whole pro-torture angle comes from, I haven't seen the movie but from what I've heard I don't think it is meant to be pro-torture but I think they went further than people feel comfortable with, and those people feel concerned about how the scenes could be potentially perceived, just like if a movie show too much of a graphic rape it could be viewed as rape porn even if that was not the intention of the director.

That's how I felt. The torture scenes were gruesome and came across as very cruel.

Yeah not even surprised one bit.

No idea what those idiots are watching, this movie made me hate the U.S. government, not Muslims.

By the credits I wasn't even sure who the real terrorists were. I thought it was a good portrayal.

And yet I'm sure if I watch it with my boyfriend, he'll walk out hating muslims too. It's all perspective.
