One Direction have travelled to Ghana for Red Nose Day.

The boyband went to the capital Accra to meet people in poverty who receive donations and support from Comic Relief.

Harry Styles wrote of the experience: "Today was the most amazing day I've had so far... In my life ever....@rednoseday Thank you so much for having us. It was amazing and we'll see you soon."

Niall Horan wrote: "I've seen the slums right in front of me! This is no joke! They really need your help! Poverty is real

"Massive thanks to @rednoseday for taking us to Ghana! It was incredible! real eye opener! We take so much for granted over here!"

The Daily Mirror said that the boys jetted out to Africa on Saturday to meet local people living in poor conditions.

Footage from the chart-toppers' visit will form the video for their charity cover of Blondie's One Way Or Another, to be released at the end of the month.

POVERTY IS REAL? I THOUGHT IT WAS MADE UP BY THE GOVERNMENT!!!!

Like his statement was the definition of #firstworldproblems and this dumb photo-op is a diaster.

What an ignorant statement to make considering that half the population in the world lives in poverty.

And the other half doesn't realize how prevalent it is until they see it for themselves.

I think that's what he meant. I don't get ppl getting so mad. Is the comment itself not an acknowledgment of past ignorance? WTF could possibly be wrong with that?

All I see here are good intentions, perhaps expressed wrongly.

I feel like he means to express that he had been ignorant of how bad/ common it really is until he saw it for himself. To lots of people poverty is a sad Catholic charity commercial, 3 secs after they change the channel they don't think about it anymore, except maybe to nod in agreement when a professor is lecturing about it. Most people are like that, prob most of the people to whom it occurred to rage their righteous indignation in this post even. But there is no such thing as a bad opportunity to suggest your own superiority. RME.
