Lena Dunham 'Girls' is White Girl Feminism At Its Worst
Lena Dunham won big at the Golden Globe Awards last night for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, and Best TV Comedy or Musical. In her acceptance speech she said, “This is for any women that’s felt like there wasn’t a space for her.”
Which women? The white millennial female who lives in New York? Dunham says she finally has a space for herself in creating the show but what about the other two-thirds of Brooklyn? The issues with HBO's Girls have been discussed at length.
Behind Girls is the idea that as millennials, we can be lost. We are trying to find ourselves, we stumble ever onward in the hope that we will get something, anything, right. This is a translatable experience for most twenty-something year-old women, and most twenty-somethings period. But what happens to women who do not see themselves expressed in the show, or see themselves as the same played out stereotypes? And should that matter?
( Someone here wrote this, didn't they?Collapse )
Person A: "haaaay, guess what ontd? Me and my ~perpetually looking 16 year old self got blackout drunk last night and blew a guy who said he'd pay all my student loans and pay for everything for the rest of forever and I don't even have to have his bbs!"
Everyone else: "omg, stawp derailing. We're discussing misandry and misogyny and anti feminism in a show we secretly not so secretly love but pretend to ironically hate. Gdi Lena, you're bringing all the feels by being so polarising. ~~~if you don't like it, scroll on by, HUNTEA!"
-_-..... I didn't read anything, but tbh, we never get anything new about this show. It's always the same recycled crap with no new perspective. Is there really nothing else worth talking about when it comes to this show for those of you who have watched?

Shut the fuck up.
And then I go to tumblr.
I start to think its time for me to just move on but then I get bored @ work the next day and cave
I can't quit ontd, though.
I just want to say a big fat screw you and all her apologists, all these (white) girls who say shit like, ugh just be happy she's a successful woman in hollywood!!! She's so real and body positive!!! If she doesn't have black friends why would she have any on her show that would just be like affirmative action!!!
Congrats, you're an asshole and the fact that you consider yourself and her a feminist is hilarious and sad and you're forever wrong.
some of us have managed to like the show while still maintaining a healthy perspective on its issues
its stupid but thankfully no one outside of this place really feels as strongly as you sjw princesses do
It's not scientific and doesn't fully encompass anyone's personality ofc but I think it observes some general trends in personalities that tend to be valid
I'm an INFJ btw.
let me do it again bc i forget what i was, but when i did it, it was SPOT ON
ESFJ
these parts scared me how accurate they were:
The ESFJ takes their responsibilities very seriously, and is very dependable. They value security and stability, and have a strong focus on the details of life. They see before others do what needs to be done, and do whatever it takes to make sure that it gets done. They enjoy these types of tasks, and are extremely good at them.
ESFJs are warm and energetic. They need approval from others to feel good about themselves. They are hurt by indifference and don't understand unkindness. They are very giving people, who get a lot of their personal satisfaction from the happiness of others. They want to be appreciated for who they are, and what they give. They're very sensitive to others, and freely give practical care. ESFJs are such caring individuals, that they sometimes have a hard time seeing or accepting a difficult truth about someone they care about.
With Extraverted Feeling dominating their personality, ESFJs are focused on reading other people. They have a strong need to be liked, and to be in control. They are extremely good at reading others, and often change their own manner to be more pleasing to whoever they're with at the moment.
An ESFJ who has developed in a less than ideal way may be prone to being quite insecure, and focus all of their attention on pleasing others
Relationships are central to their lives, and they put forth a great amount of energy into developing and maintaining their close interpersonal relationships. They expect the same from others.
Most ESFJs have a strong need to "belong" - whether it be to institutions or traditions, or family units. This need usually causes them to be quite social creatures, who enjoy attending parties, as well as throwing their own. They're likely to strongly desire that their mates share in their social experiences.
apparently my romantic matches are "the idealist" and "the artist" - which are basically spot on of the guys i go for lol

"They have a keen sense of right and wrong, especially in their area of interest and/or responsibility. ...ISTJs often give the initial impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold. Effusive expression of emotional warmth is not something that ISTJs do without considerable energy loss...ISTJs are easily frustrated by the inconsistencies of others, especially when the second parties don't keep their commitments. But they usually keep their feelings to themselves unless they are asked..
Yep, pretty much.
I actually took it with a therapist who was certified as a Jung specialist and she went over my answers with me to make sure I was answering them correctly (people taking their own personality quizzes 65% of the time give false results, FYI).
I was an INTJ before she went over it again with me, and I was in fact and INFJ.
I find it incredibly accurate, yes, FYI.
it's really fucking on point.
I can totally see why people dislike Lena Dunham (and her character Hannah, who I abhor) but seriously...people act like she's satan. she's not. she's just dumb about a significant amount of things.
she's dumb, she's sheltered...hopefully she's not so much anymore. seems like she's trying.
