3 NEW Mama Clips Released

The Guillermo Del Toro-produced horror flick, MAMA, is set to debut this week and today we have an exclusive clip from the film, which introduces you to the feral children of the titular mom.  The film stars Jessica Chastain, who is burning up screens everywhere with her performance in ZERO DARK THIRTY, as well as Nikolaj Costar-Waldau, also known as Jaimie Lannister/The Kingslayer in HBO's Game of Thrones.  That's a pretty good bonus for MAMA, which is helmed by first-time director Andres Muschietti.

The extended clip is pretty creepy and cool, which may well sway you into theaters if you were still on the fence.  I'm certainly intrigued by the premise and look forward to catching this, if for no other reason than to see the lovely Chastain chew through some more scenery and some Del-Toro inspired scares.

2 more unseen clips under cutCollapse )

missjersey 16th-Jan-2013 03:48 am (UTC)
"Mama" looks like it could have been a really cool, psychological horror thriller. But it's stupid spirit/ghost nonsense and looks stupid.
distant_lines 16th-Jan-2013 03:50 am (UTC)
That's how I felt about that movie that came out with Ethan Hawke in it recently. Can't remember the name though.

Horror films need to stop putting music and/or scores in the film. I think it's more scary if it's just raw sound of creaking trees, doors, windows, etc.
redaodai 16th-Jan-2013 03:54 am (UTC)
This. The Don't be Afraid of the Dark remake wasn't very good to begin with, but the bad background music in every single scene made it worse. Silence is frightening.
buttercup31 16th-Jan-2013 04:00 am (UTC)
Yes, I can always hear the heavy-handed soundtracks, and the false scares they try to create, and it ruins it. Like, I won't feel what your music wants me to feel, I DO WHAT I WANT.
duckyduck92 16th-Jan-2013 04:15 am (UTC)
that's funny because the original halloween originally didn't have any music, and it scored very low with viewers. then they added the famous score and then it tested extremely well, and became a classic and one of the most successful indie films of all time.

csb/
nanachic 16th-Jan-2013 06:21 am (UTC)
that's because the score in that movie is A+
arrowtoes 16th-Jan-2013 04:20 am (UTC)
ugh that's the worst, like when they music to heighten a fake scare and I'm just like, no one's falling for your shit bro.
blessedbell 16th-Jan-2013 04:34 am (UTC)
paranormal activity did this well.
hierarchia 16th-Jan-2013 04:40 am (UTC)
god, i know. i start getting scared when everything gets quiet. there's no point in music imo.

I thought Sinister did well with the creepy music/ambience.
davejohn 16th-Jan-2013 11:45 am (UTC)
Horror films need to stop doing the overused cliche dime a dozen typical "o yay we've made it...Uh Oh we didn't...ACK!" ending

UuGHDJKhf CREEPY POST and I actually have something to contribute

The other night, a couple friends and I were hating on this girl because she is one of those super judgmental Christians who thinks Fun is a sin. I would jest that I had no heart and the devil was inside me (referencing the girl in question) and we all had a good laugh. We went to bed and I had a dream that my mother was possessed and I was lucid toward the end. My eyes were open and I was dreaming and actually said what I was saying in my dream out loud which was (I think) "People listen to her now". As soon as I said that, something bangs on my door. Hard. It was only once, but it was wayyyyyy to creepy for me to handle and I couldn't go back to sleep.

I'm over it now but damn, I almost turned to God at 6:45 Sunday morning.
karishcookie 16th-Jan-2013 04:01 am (UTC)
lmao sleep paralysis boo. no need to convert to that culty mess.
mae_vee 16th-Jan-2013 11:39 am (UTC)
It's never happened to me before! Do not want this to be a regular thing like for real I have never been so scared in my life
swim_thedepths 16th-Jan-2013 09:26 am (UTC)
Oh gawd lol. That must have been really scary to go through, even if it is sleep paralysis.
shantayustay 16th-Jan-2013 03:53 am (UTC)
I haven't had anything creepy happen to me recently. LOL
intangibleamor 16th-Jan-2013 03:53 am (UTC)
fuck this movie...

... yet I still plan to see it.
punishermax 16th-Jan-2013 03:54 am (UTC)
Hey.

You There.

Reading this comment.

You've always been so fast.

Those nights in the dark. During those rainy, misty nights as I followed you. I could always just keep up, my hands reaching, just missing your neck. You would always just move forward so much faster than I. Speeding up just as I slowed, without even knowing how close, how close you have come. My breath, like the darkest recesses of a Charon house, the smell of bones and dust and dark, you always just smelled it. Just a whiff, like some insane perfume from a hellish place where no light has ever crept. You never paid it any mind. It was a sewer, that bum down the road, even just the smell of rain.

But you were always just...so....fast.

I could never keep up. My claws would just miss. You would reach your door just as I sped up, my last bit of strength urging me forward, just a millimeter away from your back, teeth shing with the light, claws glinting the hairs on your head, reaching with just so little room left until the hit you, cleaved you, ripped you.

But then you reached the door. The light shuts me out, sends me away.

Always.

But here I am. You see, I figured, the game has grown stale. This chase used to feed me, used to be a thrill. But now the flavor has left and I simply wish it to end. So now, here I post. You see, I know you come here. You love creepy things. The scarier the better. Oh, I know you'll never truly believe this is for you.

But that doesn't matter. You see, now, a little tiny part of you will always sense something. You may walk a little faster at first, but haste makes waster my dear. A trip, a fall, a careless slip. Perhaps one too many looks behind you. I will be in the shadows. Perhaps behind, perhaps to the side. Maybe even waiting in the darkened alley. You will slow. And I will be there.

Now that you know. Oh it will be so much easier to catch you. And, well, for those of you whom I have not had the...pleasure to chase. Well. Let's just say, I have many friends. We all share a similar...hobby.

Have a very nice night.

So awesome!!!
lettya 16th-Jan-2013 03:54 am (UTC)
I just saw an advance screening of Mama. Wasn't as great as I'd thought it would be nor as scary. Had typical scary movie tactics, the story/resolution wasn't my favorite but it did make me jump a few times. Good movie overall.

My creepy post contribution, one of the ghosts in my house had a tantrum & threw a plate across the room while I was cooking & kept slamming doors.
soavantgarde 16th-Jan-2013 04:08 am (UTC)
were there any screamer scenes like in the woman in black? that annoyed/scared the shit out of me
lettya 16th-Jan-2013 04:26 am (UTC)
Yes there was & that got me in both movies as well.
ohdarlingx 16th-Jan-2013 04:10 am (UTC)
Can you tell me what the story was? Like the whole plot? LOL I'm a wimp so I won't be watching this but it intrigues me! Thanks!!
twowaymirrrors 16th-Jan-2013 04:14 am (UTC)
So what happens in it? I don't want to see it, but I want to know what happens
chimbleysweep 16th-Jan-2013 04:32 am (UTC)
Does it recreate the scary climax from the short? Where she does that faaaabulous run? I thought I saw something like that in the new trailer but it went by too quickly.
isthisdesire 16th-Jan-2013 04:42 am (UTC)

Going to see Mama. If it gets too scary I will go to my Happy Place of dirty Nikolaj fantasies.

ET was the scariest movie ever to me. It scared me so bad as a kid, I slept all summer with a light on. Every plane I saw in the night sky, I thought was ET coming to get me.

Edited at 2013-01-16 03:58 am (UTC)
cookinguptales 16th-Jan-2013 07:41 am (UTC)
I have still never seen the end of ET because it freaked me out so much as a kid. lol
a_boleyn1230 16th-Jan-2013 02:04 pm (UTC)
I'm glad I wasn't the only one! All I remember is that scene in the cornfield at night, where he screams. Also that scene where he hides in the stuffed animals - my mom said I split up all of mine so that ET couldn't "hide" in them.
patiently 16th-Jan-2013 04:05 pm (UTC)
i'm STILL terrified of ET.
yurasama_love 16th-Jan-2013 03:55 am (UTC)
