The Killing Will Return On AMC For Open & Shut S3 With Linden & Holder For 12 Eps

AMC just can't quit The Killing. Despite canceling the crime drama after a not-great second season that itself followed a Season 1 finale that nearly started World War III, the show has somehow found its way back onto AMC's schedule. Season 3 will consist of 12 episodes, and production on the show starts in late February, putting it on track for a summer or fall release.

The new round brings back all the key components: Stars Mireille Enos (Sarah Linden) and Joel Kinnaman (Stephen Holder) will return, and the heavily criticized Veena Sud reclaims her role as executive producer and showrunner. But Sud has learned from her critics, and Season 3 will feature an all-new case that AMC promises will be wrapped up (or "resolved," in the network's words) by the time the finale ends, according to its press release. The setup will find Stephen working on a murder that ties into an old case Sarah worked, bringing her back into the fold.

As for the Netflix involvement that started the series' resurrection in the first place, negotiations are still ongoing. But any chance of Netflix getting first-run rights is gone.

I'm so over The Killing. How about you?

I will watch because despite the murder and and 2 season resolve I enjoyed the storytelling and Linden & Holder's relationship. Unfortunately I think this is a case of trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together when he's pretty much a Denny's special at this point.

I'll watch cause I like Holder and Linden. The case was always the weakest part.
tangerinefriday 16th-Jan-2013 12:01 am (UTC)
Yeah true, but I MUCH prefer this to CBS style stuff where the week to week case is pretty good but the only people we see on a continuing basis are cardboard cutouts created from Mad Libs: the cliche edition.

same with me! I loooove these kinds of long, drawn out cases where you really get to look at all the details and connect with the characters.
bellyroomfan 16th-Jan-2013 05:48 pm (UTC)
this is very true. and the twists, especially the final twist, felt forced.
ultrasushi 15th-Jan-2013 11:11 pm (UTC)
Will be watching in hopes that Linden and Holder finally hook up.

did't watch the second season, and although i loved the first season, i don't think i ever will watch it.
modern 15th-Jan-2013 11:14 pm (UTC)
Yay!! I love this show!!

Yes, good news...

So I gave up about halfway through season 1, dunno why got distracted I suppose. But who killed the girl?

brokenseas 15th-Jan-2013 11:19 pm (UTC)
The blonde political aide + Rosie's Aunt Terry. He attacked her and stuffed her in the trunk and Aunt Terry (not knowing that Rosie was the girl in the trunk--but that there WAS a girl in the trunk) pushed the car into the lake.
war_machine_rox 15th-Jan-2013 11:30 pm (UTC)
Were they having an affair together or him with Rosie?

Shit, brb wiki-ing.
deenosaurus 15th-Jan-2013 11:17 pm (UTC)
What is the point of the third season?
brokenseas 15th-Jan-2013 11:18 pm (UTC)
Will watch for Holder. NOT for Veena Sud
brokenseas 15th-Jan-2013 11:20 pm (UTC)
Did anyone watch Forbrydelsen III in the last few months on the BBC?? Was anyone else enraged by the ending??
muffintiem 16th-Jan-2013 01:25 am (UTC)
I wanted to be mad. I really did. I wanted Lund to have her happy ending, but I think they ended it that way for one reason and one reason only; a continuation. They've said that the 3rd series is the last, but I would be really surprised if that was the last we saw of Sarah Lund.

Also, if you like Forbrydelsen, you might like Borgen. I actually like it more, which I didn't think was possible.
brokenseas 16th-Jan-2013 01:32 am (UTC)
I was so mad she wasn't going to end up renovating her little shack with the hot guy! I hope it's not the end, but I guess only they know :(

I actually was going to start watching Borgen over the holidays but ran out of time. It's definitely on my list--good to hear it's good.
leopard_legs 16th-Jan-2013 02:44 pm (UTC)
the ending made me...feel...mixed? I was mad because I just wanted her to have a "happy" ending, so to speak - I wanted her to try and rekindle a relationship with Mark even though she'd been so negligent towards him, be a Grandma but I knew in my heart that she was nothing without her job. So the ending didn't surprise me.
peppermint_fox 15th-Jan-2013 11:20 pm (UTC)
I'll be watching it for Holder and Linden.
frenchverbs 15th-Jan-2013 11:20 pm (UTC)
I stopped watching after the first season. I thought the show was really boring, and only watched as long as I did to find out who the killer was.
isthisdesire 15th-Jan-2013 11:22 pm (UTC)
Did she ever stay engaged to her fiancée who lived in another city? I remember season 1 was all "I'm on my way oh wait the case" x 566435677
professor_chaos 15th-Jan-2013 11:25 pm (UTC)
Ugh that was the most exasperating sub plot. Eventually her fiancee couldn't deal w/it anymore and put the kibosh on their relationship for good.
brokenseas 15th-Jan-2013 11:35 pm (UTC)
Umm he came back and bailed her out of the mental institution she got committed to. But Idk they were together after that
tangerinefriday 15th-Jan-2013 11:55 pm (UTC)
It was revealed that he was her psychiatrist, which spoke volumes about their relationship imo.
ky02121 16th-Jan-2013 12:06 am (UTC)
OMG. He was her shrink? Glad I stopped watching.
rkt 16th-Jan-2013 03:09 am (UTC)

I don't even remember what happened in season 2 and how it ended, it was that bad.

I just love Mireille Enos.
treebraids 15th-Jan-2013 11:25 pm (UTC)
Yess to this and veena's return. Naysayers can eat a bowl of dicks.
tangerinefriday 15th-Jan-2013 11:57 pm (UTC)
SAME.

Sure the show had its problems but I think the hating is verging on melodramatic. She def had some missteps with the mystery, but she is also responsible for the things about the show that kept even some of the haters watching. Mireille and Joel didn't just make all that stuff up as they went along.
zurbraran 16th-Jan-2013 12:39 am (UTC)
Exactly. I don't know if S3 will be good, but I'll be watching. As Det. Holder once said, "You just got to row with the flow, like my man Bruce Lee."

He also said, “No wonder you ain’t a pro at being a moms, you didn’t have the blueprint. It’s like cats. If they don’t get raised by their moms, they don’t learn how to bury their caca right.”

I'm telling you, that man is a fountain of knowledge.

justmyowl 16th-Jan-2013 01:38 am (UTC)

he's the best
slutdrunkmystag 16th-Jan-2013 12:46 am (UTC)
I agree, I'm excited! Especially now that they're learning from their mistakes and keeping the mystery confined to a season.
katesamaloo 16th-Jan-2013 01:37 am (UTC)
IA!!! :)

dizzy879 15th-Jan-2013 11:27 pm (UTC)
Season 1 was good. Hopefully they don't disappoint this time.
marywebgirl 15th-Jan-2013 11:51 pm (UTC)
My husband and I went hiking in Discovery Park* the other day and he asked me whether this show was coming back lol.

*The real thing doesn't look anything like the place on the show where Rosie's body was found.
ky02121 16th-Jan-2013 12:08 am (UTC)
Sorry your comment made me laugh.
emilenshook 16th-Jan-2013 12:46 am (UTC)
lol I was always distracted by how obvious it was that they were not in Seattle. Just set the show in Vancouver!
marywebgirl 16th-Jan-2013 01:05 am (UTC)
Right? Our oot friends who watch it ask us if it really rains like that here.
justmyowl 16th-Jan-2013 01:39 am (UTC)
oh. i'm dumb. i've never been before so i never questioned it. it looked pretty though!!
