It's even weirder because he obviously liked her the way she was, and he was ready to change for her. (And yeah yeah, you shouldn't have to change yourself for a relationship, but in his case, it was more about getting back on the right track, which is a healthy and good kind of change). Like, other than fanservice, I have absolutely no idea why she had to change at the end.
