That's one reason why if I have kids I'll encourage them to take a few years off before starting college. It's silly to expect a 17 year old to make a rational decision about what they want to do with the rest of their lives.

A philosophy major seems interesting to a teenager planning out the next few years of their lives, but I'm guessing most of the people who sign up for that major aren't thinking about what sort of jobs that degree will get them.
