Boys call Ghana trip 'inspiring' and an 'eye opener'

Yesterday the interweb was abuzz with the rumour that One Direction had secretly flown to Africa as part of their involvment with Comic Relief.

Now the boys have confirmed that they have indeed spent the last few days in Ghana, calling the trip 'inspiring' and an 'eye-opener'.

"Having the most amazing few days of my life !" wrote Liam yesterday - and you know the Paynis is being serious when he doesn't add a single extraaaa letter to any of his words.

"Today was the most amazing day I've had so far.. In my life ever," agreed Harry, before adding today: "@rednoseday Thank you so much for having us. It was amazing and we'll see you soon .xx"

1D are said to have visited some of the people helped by Comic Relief funds, as well as filming segments to accompany the video for their official Red Nose Day single - a cover of Blondie's One Way or Another.

The boys will be seen meeting poverty stricken families in a segment due to air as part of the Red Nose Day broadcast on March 15.

Niall certainly seems to have been affected by what he's seen over the past few days - he sent a PLETHORA of tweets earlier this morning regarding 1D's trip.

"Just arrived back from Accra,Ghana! Best life experience ever! This @rednoseday please get involved!!" he wrote.

"Watch comic relief this @rednoseday, you are in for a shock and eye opener ! and fun too"

He added: "I've seen the slums right in front of me! This is no joke! They really need your help! Poverty is real !"

Thats! a! lot! of! exclamation! marks! there! Nialler! but still, an important message.

What do you think - will you be tuning in to watch the boys in Africa on March 15?

Personally, I am for this, because it's a more honest, descriptive term and doesn't lump non-white people in one category together for no reason other than being non-white.

Background, because it usually comes up in discussions on race: I'm a brown person who's the majority race in my country.

and doesn't lump non-white people in one category together for no reason other than being non-white

isn't that what the term POC is for though? when referencing the group of ppl who share one thing in common (being non-white). i mean, i only use the phrase when i'm talking about white ppl vs the rest of the world. i dunno. idrc tbh i'll use w/e is pc~~ :P

Calling it by a separate category is different than using a negation. I can't link examples readily, but I've seen exchanges where the person speaking seems to think that all "POC" has the same experiences wrt race and racial relations to the other category, "white people" (colorless people? :P).

Rarely do people bother to know whether a "POC", a black person or "Asian" is from Zaire or Nigeria, from Myanmar or Nepal. Whereas white people in conversations are often classified as American, French, Swedish, Russian, etc. and not called "the white filmmaker" or sth like that. And that kind of language even happens in countries where Caucasian is not the majority race.

In the big picture, I think the term "person of color" just ticks me off mostly because of the attitude in second paragraph.
