Boys call Ghana trip 'inspiring' and an 'eye opener'

Yesterday the interweb was abuzz with the rumour that One Direction had secretly flown to Africa as part of their involvment with Comic Relief.

Now the boys have confirmed that they have indeed spent the last few days in Ghana, calling the trip 'inspiring' and an 'eye-opener'.

"Having the most amazing few days of my life !" wrote Liam yesterday - and you know the Paynis is being serious when he doesn't add a single extraaaa letter to any of his words.

"Today was the most amazing day I've had so far.. In my life ever," agreed Harry, before adding today: "@rednoseday Thank you so much for having us. It was amazing and we'll see you soon .xx"

1D are said to have visited some of the people helped by Comic Relief funds, as well as filming segments to accompany the video for their official Red Nose Day single - a cover of Blondie's One Way or Another.

The boys will be seen meeting poverty stricken families in a segment due to air as part of the Red Nose Day broadcast on March 15.

Niall certainly seems to have been affected by what he's seen over the past few days - he sent a PLETHORA of tweets earlier this morning regarding 1D's trip.

"Just arrived back from Accra,Ghana! Best life experience ever! This @rednoseday please get involved!!" he wrote.

"Watch comic relief this @rednoseday, you are in for a shock and eye opener ! and fun too"

He added: "I've seen the slums right in front of me! This is no joke! They really need your help! Poverty is real !"

Thats! a! lot! of! exclamation! marks! there! Nialler! but still, an important message.

What do you think - will you be tuning in to watch the boys in Africa on March 15?

OMG, bless 1D's white savior light. Except for Zayn, who as we all know got lost "in between those african kids." ETA: link was deleted, so have a screencap instead (ty, piratesswoop):

lmao mfte

how exactly are they helping? by raising awareness? haven't we already been aware for decades that poverty exists in africa? how is 1d going to ghana and playing with poverty-stricken children who probaly have no fucking clue who they are going to improve their living conditions? like, i get the point behind red nose day as a whole and other similar "raise money for africa~~~~~~" charities, but the fact that they focus far more on the celebrities than the people affected by poverty really rubs me the wrong way

and their reactions just seem so shallow and typical of privileged westerners. idk, there just seems something off about talking about poverty and how your trip was so FUN and AMAZING. like...if i were genuinely affected, i don't think those would be the first words to come to my head. it really does seem like a poverty porn trip.

b/c that's how you get ppl interested,
It's sad to say but more ppl will help b/c their fave celeb wants them to/does it/promises a call or someshit than if only the poor and suffering were shown.
It's a necessary evil.

pretty much, it's like the fact that there are people all over the world on every continent suffering from hunger, homelessness, poverty, lack of sanitation, education, etc, but the only way you can get some people interested is by having celebrities pimp it out just saddens me.

like, people can see a starving kid and say "oh that's sad but what can you do" but if a celeb is like "save the children!" suddenly people are like "WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING"
