Lady Gaga's machine gun bra worn during concert causes outrage

352325-gaga
No stranger to controversy,  Lady Gaga has caused outrage once again by brandishing a machine-gun bra just a month after twenty six
people were killed in a US school massacre.
The popstar donned the outfit consisting of two plastic assault rifles strapped to each cup, during her concert in Vancouver, Canada.
But critics have suggested the garb is insensitive and in poor taste after 20 children and six adults were killed in a horrific massacre at Connecticut's Sandy Hook primary school on December 14 last year.
A national debate on gun control is continuing to be played out in the US while the pop star flaunted the weapons during the North American leg of her Born This Way Ball tour.

Sandy Hook was an awful tragedy there's no doubt about that. But I mean, this wasn't even in the country that it happened in and it's on the opposite side of the continent. It's not like she's reenacting the event either. This is reaching.
lightwillguide 15th-Jan-2013 08:25 am (UTC)
It's reaching a bit, like she didn't wear it to spit in people's faces. I still personally think it's in poor taste.
vehiclesshockme 15th-Jan-2013 08:32 am (UTC)
I don't know I mean she wore one in the Alejandro video. I'd feel differently if something was being acted out or if she wore it in Connecticut this soon but in this context I don't have an issue with it.

mynamehere07 15th-Jan-2013 08:29 am (UTC)
It is reaching.

However 100% of everything she does is for attention, and given the gun control debate going on now, it's not an coincidence.
brucelynn 15th-Jan-2013 08:38 am (UTC)
Reaching for the stars

no doubt about it
butt_or_skotch 15th-Jan-2013 08:41 am (UTC)
Is this really a surprise that people who are clinging to the 2nd Amendment are blaming Lady Gaga and video games for expressing their 1st Amendment rights? Of course it's society's fault for gun violence!!!!!
fwee_prower 15th-Jan-2013 09:51 am (UTC)
If it was in America and maybe the next day, do you think she would still do it?
michelleantonia 15th-Jan-2013 11:16 am (UTC)

blarepierce geeze15th-Jan-2013 11:20 am (UTC)
i agree, total reaching. The shooting was tragic but does that mean people can't still express themselves... like if someone likes to dress grunge from the 90's, they'll get shit for mocking homeless people??... get a grip people!
champagnexdream 15th-Jan-2013 01:33 pm (UTC)
MTE. It's terrible but not related to this at all.

boweeko 15th-Jan-2013 04:52 pm (UTC)
its reaching. thats like being mad that a TV show or movie features guns too. Are we not allowed to look at guns anymore or something?
jinnycalderone 15th-Jan-2013 10:32 pm (UTC)
ia. shes been wearing this for over a year now w/the btwb. this is ridic.
lightwillguide 15th-Jan-2013 08:24 am (UTC)
She wore this before, didn't she? I personally find it in poor taste, considering the current climate. Just a bad decision.
scaredsquee 15th-Jan-2013 09:06 am (UTC)
she wore it on a rolling stone cover.
allmannerofsins 15th-Jan-2013 01:11 pm (UTC)
Yeah she's worn it at every show so far AND she's used guns as props throughout the show the whole tour. It only gets brought up when journalists want to stir shit (obvs). Madonna uses guns in her show, where's the press around that...
vanishingbee 15th-Jan-2013 01:16 pm (UTC)
lol there was this exact same article ~being mad at madonna for using guns at her show, too.
hippie_chick 15th-Jan-2013 03:23 pm (UTC)
Oh trust, they called her out for the guns too.
soba_kasu 16th-Jan-2013 07:39 pm (UTC)
yup madonna got the same shit. but again, theyve been using the same outfits their whole tour it wasnt like she was like oh tons of kids got killed time to pull out my gun bra
swissbeauty23 15th-Jan-2013 08:25 am (UTC)
I mean, it's tacky and stupid but "outrage" in this context makes me think of pearl clutchers.
lightwillguide 15th-Jan-2013 08:26 am (UTC)
LOL yes. And BOWING at the beauty in your icon.
swissbeauty23 15th-Jan-2013 08:42 am (UTC)

OMFG THIS FLAWLESS ICON RN
laurie_springs 15th-Jan-2013 08:26 am (UTC)
Rolling Stone published a picture of her wearing that on the cover of their magazine once so can we shut them down? Dead srs btw I'm totally down for that.
charlie 15th-Jan-2013 08:35 am (UTC)
lmao mte, fuck rolling stone
swissbeauty23 15th-Jan-2013 08:42 am (UTC)
I've never liked Rolling Stone. Something about them always rubbed me the wrong way.
whutness 15th-Jan-2013 04:20 pm (UTC)
I hate rolling stone. I bought concert tickets last year and apparently signed myself up for a year subscription to them. I was so confused when they started showing up.
so_chic_doll 15th-Jan-2013 08:26 am (UTC)
no

that look-a-like/age post was just getting hot.

cheeseasauras 15th-Jan-2013 08:31 am (UTC)
I'm outraged that her wig is coming off. Glue dat shit on or somethin' gurl.
tempertemper 15th-Jan-2013 10:39 am (UTC)

finchroxxx 15th-Jan-2013 08:32 am (UTC)
I'm more outraged at that prolapsed anus in the background. Wtf is that?

Is it wrong that I'm jealous of just how smooth that shave job is on the ball region? Damn, that must take some real time.

saltonmycuts 15th-Jan-2013 08:32 am (UTC)
I don't agree with the article but i saw it on yahoo and i was bored. Might as well post it.
so_chic_doll 15th-Jan-2013 08:32 am (UTC)
i don't even have an email account with yahoo

but their bizarre news articles always keep me going back there just for the lols.
stephantasm 15th-Jan-2013 08:33 am (UTC)
why does this show look so low budget
luckyluxk 15th-Jan-2013 08:37 am (UTC)
Cause it kinda is
stephantasm 15th-Jan-2013 08:53 am (UTC)
idk I'm used to her having more extravagant stuff and this looks like a middle school play
visual_elegance 15th-Jan-2013 09:56 pm (UTC)
lol what, have you seen the show?
brucelynn 15th-Jan-2013 08:39 am (UTC)
sponsored by White Rose products and Solo cups
jacomus 15th-Jan-2013 10:06 am (UTC)
I thought it looked incredibly tacky and low budget when I saw her, but I think it's intentional most of the time. Some things are incredibly kitschy (the Electric Chapel, Heavy Metal Lover, Edge Of Glory, Born This Way, etc. parts) that it can't be coincidence.

Let's not forget the BTW album cover, which I believe set the bar for aesthetics this era.
scheisse 15th-Jan-2013 01:36 pm (UTC)
For whatever reason, it just doesn't seem to photograph well at all. There are videos that make it look amazing but the pictures are just LOL.

THE STAGE itself is the largest scenic structure ever built to tour and everyone (despite the haters like the person below) has praised it in real life.
leatherandjeans 15th-Jan-2013 01:44 pm (UTC)
Idk why but the whole BTW tour looks kinda crappy in pics and video, but then you actually see it in person and it's fucking amazing. Very different to the Monster Ball where the stage/costumes were great and looks stunning in pics/vids but the actual performance and experience was just good.
megswan 15th-Jan-2013 08:34 am (UTC)
I was at the show tonight + both the guns AND gun bra were removed from the show.
brucelynn 15th-Jan-2013 08:35 am (UTC)

His real name is Joe A'naoi

His wrestling name is Roman Reigns

He is fine as FUCK
operation_idol 15th-Jan-2013 09:26 am (UTC)
Roman. ♥
mementox 15th-Jan-2013 08:36 am (UTC)
The other night Anderson Cooper was talking about these cray cray ppl who think Sandy Hook was staged so the government would have an excuse to TAKE AWAY OUR GUNS Y'ALL.. omg it made me so angry
saltonmycuts 15th-Jan-2013 08:39 am (UTC)
Smh i hope i never run into those type of people that believe in that crap.
lightwillguide 15th-Jan-2013 08:44 am (UTC)
But don't forget, the whole fabric of our nation will crumble if our collective drunk idiot brother in laws can't have their AK-47's to shoot at targets. I just cannot.
mynamehere07 15th-Jan-2013 08:47 am (UTC)
I glad I didn't see that, because I would have been yelling at my TV.

I really hate these fringe conspiracy theorists, the only good thing about them being on CNN is they will never fail to make fools of themselves.
butt_or_skotch 15th-Jan-2013 08:48 am (UTC)
I really wish he didn't. It just gives them more attention, and a larger platform on which to speak. I really can't with this Sandy Hook was fake stuff....

The internet is great, until it connects loonies with other loonies. I'm sure there have always been conspiracy theorists and such, but now they can gain so much more attention so much more quickly. It's kind of ridiculous.
vonlisbon 15th-Jan-2013 09:01 am (UTC)
srsly like I get his show is news + entertainment, but I hate when even vaguely legitimate news platforms cover gossip-y/conspiracy theory/etc shit like that, because it makes it seem more legitimate than it really is. I mean shit, why not do a whole special on the ~faking of concentration camps~ while you're at it?
brucelynn 15th-Jan-2013 08:57 am (UTC)
Oh dear

I may end up throwing a shoe at somebody if I heard that shit outloud
ohkimosabe 15th-Jan-2013 09:33 am (UTC)
people all over twitter and facebook are posting a video about it. so ridiculous.
thetxbelle 15th-Jan-2013 11:21 am (UTC)
Did he say anything disproving this crap that's going around online? Someone on my Facebook posted a hoax video and I'd love to be able to tell them or link them to something proving they're idiots.
hoot 15th-Jan-2013 01:38 pm (UTC)
I haven't heard people saying that but it doesn't shock me since people were saying it about the Aurora shootings too.
leopard_legs 15th-Jan-2013 04:51 pm (UTC)
people like that need hobbies or something
take up crocheting or some shit just so they'll stop being completely insane
flumes 15th-Jan-2013 08:37 am (UTC)
hm...this was in a totally diff country tho and like a while after it happened (well a month isn't a while and it was really tragic but this seems a little out there)
crystalzelda 15th-Jan-2013 08:38 am (UTC)
These outrages about popstars using violent imagery in their acts is incredibly tired

like we have other things to worry about when it comes to this issue, like the fact that even after the shooting of a member of congress, of malls and religious temples and movie theaters and military bases and schools and spas, there's still no concrete legislation to fucking DO something about it. Go be outraged about that, not that Gaga's got guns on her tits in Canada a month after the Sandy Hook massacre.
swissbeauty23 15th-Jan-2013 08:44 am (UTC)
agreed

i understand why seeing this might make someone uncomfortable, but it's not worth getting worked up over. it's GaGa, she's always doing shit like this.
lightwillguide 15th-Jan-2013 08:45 am (UTC)
Seriously, you are completely right.
grammaire 15th-Jan-2013 08:48 am (UTC)
Word.
vehiclesshockme 15th-Jan-2013 08:53 am (UTC)
This.
vonlisbon 15th-Jan-2013 09:04 am (UTC)
People prefer to stick to really simplistic, obvious things that can be changed incredibly quickly and easily, without an actual change in culture or legislation. Hence the entire issue of video games, movies, etc being "behind the gun violence" in America. Does it have some influence? Suuuure, I mean, same way all forms of culture influence what goes on in the culture. Probably not quite as much direct influence as actual access to assault rifles but whatever, that takes much more effort to change, so let's ignore it.
tempertemper 15th-Jan-2013 10:43 am (UTC)
Yes.
