Cable Ratings: Showtime's Sunday Trio Hit Highs, Girls Steady

Showtime’s assorted bad boys and girls were in good company on Sunday night, as Shameless, House of Lies and Californication all hit all-time highs with their season premieres.

Meanwhile on HBO, Girls was steady in its return and Enlightened saw a boost in its new time slot.

Shameless opened Season 3 with 2 million total viewers tuned into its 9 pm airing, up 26 percent from the show’s Season 2 premiere and up 37 percent from its sophomore finale. Across multiple airings, Shameless amassed 2.6 million total viewers.
The House of Lies Season 2 premiere drew 1.2 million total viewers, up 15 and 53 percent from its freshman opener and finale, respectively. For the night, HoL amassed 1.54 mil.

Californication closed out Showtime’s night with an initial audience of 1.1 mil, up some 40 percent from both its Season 5 premiere and finale. Encore airings added another 200K.

HBO’s Girls returned to a 9 pm audience of 866,000 total viewers, on par with the Season 1 premiere’s 872K. Across three airings, the comedy totaled 1.6 mil, up 42 percent from the freshman opener’s two airings.
Enlightened led out of that with an initial audience of 610,000, up 43 percent from its Season 1 premiere (which aired on a Monday).

Lastly, the series debut of Cinemax’s Banshee on Friday night drew 483,000 total viewers, the channel’s best numbers for an original series telecast since the Strike Back series launch in August 2011. For the night, Banshee amassed 1 million across three airings.

Shameless is so fucking addicting. You need to get high and drink while watching it. It adds to the experience.

redaodai 15th-Jan-2013 12:20 am (UTC)
I find Josh Lawson on House of Lies strangely attractive.
sassandthecity 15th-Jan-2013 12:22 am (UTC)
Girls sort of reminds me of the first season of Gossip Girl where the amount of hype/media attention grossly outweighed the number of people who actually watched the show.
neverknew_xo 15th-Jan-2013 12:23 am (UTC)
House of Lies has become my new crack. Last season was flawless and I'm loving how Jeannie is slowly piecing together that night with Marty.
mors_amor 15th-Jan-2013 12:24 am (UTC)
Shameless was great, Veronica and Kev had to be the best part of it (and Fiona, always).
noskidaddle 15th-Jan-2013 12:29 am (UTC)
ia! Veronica yelling "We shall overcome motherfucker!" had me dying
rimbaudacious 15th-Jan-2013 12:32 am (UTC)
I laughed and gasped simultaneously at that.
hotdog 15th-Jan-2013 12:27 am (UTC)
shameless was amazing last night. kevin/viv were flawless as always, lip looked hotter than he did last year and so did ian and estefania's dad is foine negl. i still love steve/fiona together so i'm pissed that the writers are already screwing my otp up.
rimbaudacious 15th-Jan-2013 12:28 am (UTC)
Shameless was sort of underwhelming but it's still my fav show at the moment so idgaf.

Kev and V were dead ass wrong and I LOVED IT.
rimbaudacious 15th-Jan-2013 12:29 am (UTC)
& oblig can't wait for white trash prince Mickey to slay.
pretty_hostel 15th-Jan-2013 01:08 am (UTC)
oui
noskidaddle 15th-Jan-2013 12:28 am (UTC)
Shameless was absolutely perfect. I wish I could marathon the whole season rn. And I really hope Fiona doesn't fuck up anything this season, like the promo is making her out to be, because she tries so hard to make the whole family work and survive and be happy
mors_amor 15th-Jan-2013 12:40 am (UTC)
I get the feeling Lip is the one who's gonna fuck in the long term (I mean by the second half of the season). Like this whole attitude is gonna turn on him, even if at first it's gonna look bad for fiona.
noskidaddle 15th-Jan-2013 12:50 am (UTC)
That would be preferable, cuz Lip has been annoying me with his thought process that stealing is the only way to make money
demi32 15th-Jan-2013 12:32 am (UTC)
House of lies is so good.
mammary_glands 15th-Jan-2013 12:32 am (UTC)
enlightened is so simple and perfect. i'm pumped that more ppl are tuning in this season :^)
blue_kimono 15th-Jan-2013 12:39 am (UTC)

Don Cheadle's head looks photoshopped on, David Duchovny's head looks too big, and William H Macy's hair is lacking any flaws
loganx2 15th-Jan-2013 12:58 am (UTC)
Im just waiting for Matt Damon to be on Cheadles show. only thing i care about.
blue_kimono 15th-Jan-2013 01:09 am (UTC)
Enlightened was so perfect last night, especially the intro/outro with Amy's voiceovers and that music. Ugh, so good.
gonerilandregan 15th-Jan-2013 01:17 am (UTC)
Yes!

Random thought: I like Amy, despite the fact that she can be quite irritating and clueless, but I wish Tyler would stop being her doormat.
blue_kimono 15th-Jan-2013 04:32 am (UTC)
Yeah ia, but then also it seems like Tyler is gradually starting to stand up to her (see: his insistence about being happy with his life in this episode). I read an interview that said in this season there's gonna be another "Consider Helen"-style episode (that was ep 9 of the first season iirc) but from Tyler's point of view instead. Pretty excited at the prospect of that, I'm endlessly curious about his life and where he's ~coming from.
gonerilandregan 15th-Jan-2013 03:53 pm (UTC)
oh, true. I was thinking of the scene where he drops her off at the reporter's home, and she asks him to wait. I did love it when he uttered, "Are you fucking kidding?" haha. Mike White is just fabulous.

and that's very exciting-- I had no idea! I'm really looking forward to it! "Consider Helen" was my favourite episode from last season, and Diane Ladd should have been nominated for a slew of awards.
pretty_hostel 15th-Jan-2013 01:10 am (UTC)
justin chatwin's acting last night was fabulous, well done sir.
andi88 15th-Jan-2013 01:34 am (UTC)
I need to get into Shameless and House of Lies. I really want to see HoL especially after last night, and of fucking course I already watch Cali.
kristendotcom 15th-Jan-2013 02:27 am (UTC)
Did House of Lies ever actually get funny? I'm still confused as to why its under comedy. I tried watching it but it came across like a drama and then Kristen Bell's character had sex w/ that old man and I had to stop. Nhf daddy issues.

deethy 15th-Jan-2013 04:26 am (UTC)
Yay, Shameless!!!!! Hope it keeps up the good numbers :)
prophecypro 15th-Jan-2013 04:53 am (UTC)
Damn Showtime and FX get low ratings. I know its cable but still even for cable they get low ratings.
pon_pon_pink 15th-Jan-2013 08:09 am (UTC)
Still need to watch HoL, but Shameless was flawless <3 But WHY do they have to fuck up Steve again. i want em to be happy and together..ugH!
Also Californication was surprisingly good even though i hated the last season. i hope they finaly get shit done, i want Hank to sober up and be the good man he tries so hard to be.
jennyfinnly 15th-Jan-2013 08:18 am (UTC)
Californicatin was so fucking disgusting last night, good lawd!
pon_pon_pink 15th-Jan-2013 09:50 am (UTC)
i was watching it while eating breakfast and when hank drank out of the bottle he JUST peed in i felt like throwing up my cereal again D: they need to stop with the super fucked up and disgusting shit. i don't remember anymore but it wasn't always THAT bad, was it?
treebraids 15th-Jan-2013 10:46 am (UTC)
House of Lies was actually funny. Theor bullshitting when they didn't know who their client was had me in stitches. I'm happy a black woman is joining the show.
lreservoirldogs 15th-Jan-2013 01:12 pm (UTC)
Californication is still on? Oh.
jburns 15th-Jan-2013 02:17 pm (UTC)
House of Lies was amazing. I don't even care if I'm apparently the only person who watches it. (I swear to you, I can find no one else who watches it in real life.)
