Starbucks is mad cuz McDreamy is stylin on them

Starbucks among group claiming Patrick Dempsey unfairly charmed coffee chain auctioneers

Starbucks and other rivals are hoping to stop actor Patrick Dempsey’s group from completing its purchase of Tully’s coffee to save the Washington-based company from shutting down. They say that the charming actor, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy, managed to win even though he didn’t put in the highest bid.

Last month, Dempsey joined a group hoping to save Tully’s, which has locations in Washington and California. Then, last week, the group won the company with a $9.15 million bid, beating out Starbucks. The move was praised throughout Seattle, which was excited to see a local company survive.

However, The Wall Street Journal reports that Starbucks and the other losers aren’t going down without a fight. Starbucks and another company say that they put in $10.5 million bids, but they were ignored due to his "McDreamy" charm. They took their complaints to U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Seattle on Friday.

The attorneys of a Denver company that bid $4.3 million said that Dempsey’s group “may have impeded financing for qualified bidders and creates the appearance that its bid was favored.”

Still, Tully’s Chief Executive Scott Pearson has praised Dempsey for saving the company and 480 jobs.

“Many Tully’s customers strongly prefer, and paid for a Tully’s product, as opposed to Starbucks,” Pearson said in court documents Thursday, ushering the court to approve the deal.

According to The Seattle Times, Pearson also has to fight Tully’s founder Tom O’Keefe, who wanted to keep the auction going. In his Thursday filing, Pearson said that O’Keefe had no stake in the company’s actions.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, which supplies Tully’s coffee, is also a player and could have delayed the proceedings if Starbucks won. However, it said that it would work with Dempsey AgriNature, another company that tried to buy Tully’s.

Starbucks is the worst. I will support anything that stands against Starbucks. We don't have Tully's, but I go to Tim Horton's all the time.

I don't really go to starbucks these days since it costs an arm and a leg. Plus as long as it tastes good to me idc where I get coffee from, had a McDonalds latte the other day which tasted good. At home I usually drink green tea, I love my tetley tea once in a while but green tea is my shit. Drinking clipper green tea with mint atm.

Has anyone ever tried using coffee grounds as an exfoliator? It works so well and smells amazing in the shower. It does make a mess though LOL.

I don't really like Starbucks coffee. But the other week we went to this little local cafe that's downtown, and I got the best mocha. My brother liked it, too, though he usually only drinks regular coffee or a latte and not fancy or flavored coffees.

lol the last time I joined in a coffee post, people got pissed off because I worked at Starbucks for years, and defended it. But whatevs. I am a tea person. I rarely drink coffee, of any sort.

I always thought people were being snotty and hipsterish when they'd talk about how ~low brow~ Starbucks is until I started drinking high-quality coffee. Holy shit their house brew is really just... amazingly bad. It's so bizarre. I've only had like one of theirs that wasn't their house blend and it was fine, but the house is just wtf. Like why would they choose THAT one to represent them??
markthatcoin 15th-Jan-2013 08:46 pm (UTC)
their coffee always tasted like garbage black but when they came out with Pike's Place roast and it was still godawful... no logic

Counter Culture Coffee ftw

Lately I've been getting caramel iced coffees from Dunkin Donuts. I can't stomach Starbucks's coffee, though I like their green tea lattes.

Alterra >> Dunkin >> Starbucks

I don't drink coffee but I will get tea from wherever I have gift cards from. There's a Starfucks, Second Cup, and an Aroma near my work.

I know everyone likes to hate on Sbux but I don't see any other coffee shops giving me free iced coffee refills. Or that make raspberry passion tea lemonade.

The only non-chain coffee shops around here are owned by religious zealot organizations DNW would rather eat my money than give it to them.

Man, that's why I took to making my own coffee than get it from shops backed by orgs I don't want to support.

Order the beans from a trusted local roaster, brew it myself. More work, but fuck, I can't beat 30 cents a cup.
mrasaki 14th-Jan-2013 02:28 am (UTC)
Shit, Tully's has the best brewed coffee. Screw Starbucks and their burned coffee.

When I drank coffee, I always liked Tully's more than Starbucks. I'm glad the Bankruptcy judge ruled in his favor.

The day of the auction, he was in my building here in Seattle where I work. I didn't know why the news cameras were downstairs when I went to read on my lunch break, and that night I went to my dad's house to get my kid and he had on the news. I glanced at the screen, and there was Patrick Dempsey in the elevator bank for my building. The next day I was told several people from our firm saw him on the elevator. He urged one attorney to come on into the elevator he was in (it was nearly full) and she said, "No, I"ll just wait," and she was wondering how she got those words out.
