I feel like Shonda may have been trying to wrangle in the group of people who were unsure about Fitz and Olivia's relationship by giving her someone totally and utterly unsuited for her, like to push the undecideds closer to sailing the good ship Folivia or whatever the fuck they call their ship.
Because there was no way in seven hells that Edison was ever a threat, even when Olivia broke it off. You knew she wasn't going to stay with Ovaltine. Ugh.

I was surprised in last nights episode when Mellie asked if she was ok. Just a few episodes back, she didn't even want to be in the same room as her. And for Olivia to just tell her to get it together seemed harsh too. I didn't care for that moment really.
yeah, i def. think this was supposed to be a lesser of two evils situation but i just want her to be alone, strong and stress free now. Also it was hilariously transparent with how the writers gave edison like no good qualities.
this is what irks me. love them or hate them, olitz have insane chemistry - the writers should let this stand on its own and work on creating more depth for liv IMO. i rme when it becomes blatantly obvious in a show that character "x" was brought on solely to prove how characters "y" and "z" were meant to be, usually without acknowledging the glaring flaws of the first love interest.
yup i agree fully. and i think that's why i've kind of been partial to edison's character even through his bullshit. i knew there was no way the writers weren't gonna get olitz back together and were using his character to kill some time and not have to address things about liv.
