Zhang Ziyi wears the brightest neon gown ever



There's neon and then there's neon.

Actress Zhang Ziyi went with the latter on Tuesday, showing up to the Hong Kong premiere of "The Grandmasters" wearing a dazzlingly bright dress by Marc Bouwer. The Spring 2011 frock features peaked shoulders and a high neckline -- because really, who needs distracting cleavage and collarbone with a print like that?



Besides being completely dizzying, the print is also an optical illusion: is the fabric cotton? Latex? Jersey? The only thing we can tell is that the colors are utterly blinding. Thank goodness for Zhang Ziyi's good sense to tone things down with nude Yves Saint Laurent pumps and subtle makeup.

Are you a fan of this kaleidoscope of a dress or is the whole thing too harsh on the eyes?

Via my mom: people think she's not that pretty and that she's a country hick who slept her way to the top. So basically the criticism most actresses get tbh.

Yeah there are several things. First that she's not exactly the epitome of pretty there & is more of an ordinary face according to them. Second that she dated an Israeli-American businessman. & third was a scandal that she slept with directors so they would cast her in their movies. :/

I can give you one reason. They thinks she's ugly. Flat face, low wide nose, etc. Her eyes probably aren't big enough for them either. Go look at the girls on moko and you'll see what's considered pretty there.

If she had a darker skin tone and monolids, she'd be considered a troll.

They think she's some redneck that slept her way to the top. They also think she's not very pretty and a mediocre actress. Assumptions that a lot of actresses get if you think about.

But I've heard from multiple people that have dealt with her personally, and they all said she was "such a cunt!"

You have to have a body like that to pull off this dress, but she's working it. The gradient on the print makes her shoulders look kind of strange, though.

I've liked a lot of Marc Bouwer dresses lately and this one is no exception.
Zhang Ziyi's styling let her down though. Dreadful shoes and boring hairdo, shame :/
