Except that in pop music, your actual talent count next to nothing. Madonna never had talent, she had a lot of ambition and determination, she had perseverance and good timing, she also had the shock factor and she was willing to expose herself much more than others did at her time but her musical talent is next to none. It took her more than 20 years to sound even remotely good.
Christina had the best voice of her generation but she isn't as driven as Madonna was, she takes too much time in between albums and she changes her mind a lot, she is not consistent in her musical choices. She has not found a sound that suits her. Her work with Linda Perry - which seems to be the best suited producers for her - is always incredible and her work with Sia is also very good.
Britney, on the other hand, had a breakdown. She literally went crazy. If that hadn't happened, I don't think anybody in the world could have been at her level right now. She was a hard worker, she was infectious, lively, contagious. And she had a unique touch, which is why whenever someone covers one of her songs, it just doesn't sound as good as the original, even though she is not a good singer at all.
