New Sims 3 Expansions Announced + University Life Trailer

The Sims 3 series will have new content this year. EA's Maxis label has announced additional expansions for the PC and Mac versions of the game, including The Sims 3: University Life and The Sims 3: Island Paradise. In addition to these, an untitled new expansion and a stuff pack are currently in development for release later this year.

The Sims 3: University Life is expected to be available from March this year, and will allow players to enrol their Sims in university, attend classes, earn degrees and experience college lifestyle. In addition to new gameplay elements, players can also take their Sims through a new college town to explore new features.

The announcement also revealed a limited edition pack that is available for pre-order, which includes a party pack with additional in-game items.

The Sims 3: Island Paradise will allow players to take their Sims out on customisable houseboats and investigate uncharted islands, manage resorts, and explore the ocean. The expansion is slated for release in June this year.

In addition to the new games, EA has also revealed an untitled expansion pack that will grant Sims the ability to travel to the future, and a stuff pack featuring iconic movie themes and settings.
Both untitled games are expected to be released this year.

I always thought that University in Sims 2 felt like it took forever to get through but this looks like it'll be fun. I'm loving the "Three Llama Moon" shirt I'm not even going to lie. There's also a "socially awkward" trait. I want it. I also want the movie themed stuff pack even though we know nothing about it.

Computer generated game characters are having a better and more active college experience than I am. Que the mid-mid life crisis.
violue 9th-Jan-2013 12:16 pm (UTC)
every so often when I'm playing the game and my sim is on the couch watching TV I have that moment of ... fuck I'm seriously watching my sim watch TV?

78 9th-Jan-2013 01:13 pm (UTC)
I made my sim watch videos of cats for two hours in sims freeplay that's when I knew I have to delete it.
pdebevoise 9th-Jan-2013 01:52 pm (UTC)
I don't let my sims have tvs.
tanie_05 9th-Jan-2013 02:01 pm (UTC)

sky3205 9th-Jan-2013 01:15 pm (UTC)

Somewhat Sims related, I was looking forward to the new SimCity game until I saw you HAVE to play online. And there was a rumor you can't destroy/restore your city like in the older games. That was half the fun.
violue 9th-Jan-2013 12:06 pm (UTC)
wtf you have to play online?
chibik3r0 9th-Jan-2013 12:08 pm (UTC)
Yeah. It's EA/Origin being weird. Reddit had an AMA about it. I know I'm not buying it.

theantipoet 9th-Jan-2013 01:59 pm (UTC)
idk... as much as I may dislike it, I probably blame the pirates more than the devs.
hellicoptajuuce 9th-Jan-2013 02:09 pm (UTC)
the new simcity has been dumb-down guh i was so looking forward to it
rctshack 9th-Jan-2013 05:17 pm (UTC)
It looks pretty bad. It's the least realistic sim city ever. The city size is way too small, the emphasis is way too much on region and world, and it seems like it's just a slightly bigger sim city societies, which was dreadful. The realism of a city simulator has been drained out and it seems like they dumbed the game down for children to play and build guitar shaped cities. They didn't even care to include highways or subways.

Along with having no single player mode or offline mode... this is going to be terrible for people with laptops, let's say, taking a road trip and having no internet. Or having the wireless cut off, or being anywhere without wireless connection. It's sort of a dick move.

Cities in Motion 2 is looking like a better bet... it's the only thing I'm excited for.
lovelyeli 9th-Jan-2013 12:04 pm (UTC)
oh man..this makes me want to play sims 3 soo bad but OFC my game crashes within the first 2 minutes of playing :/

i blame you PETS!!!
hannamez8 9th-Jan-2013 08:34 pm (UTC)
Omg, I had the same issue. Till I just uninstalled Pets and it worked fine. What a waste of money.
devourlove 10th-Jan-2013 06:51 am (UTC)
same. and i can't go without pets!
violue 9th-Jan-2013 12:05 pm (UTC)
Three Llama Moon, you say?
vehiclesshockme 9th-Jan-2013 12:59 pm (UTC)
If you made that into an actual shirt I would wear it. Maybe even in front of Misha despite him hating me.
violue 9th-Jan-2013 01:11 pm (UTC)
Misha would never hate you, he's made of looove.
deja_vu822 9th-Jan-2013 12:06 pm (UTC)
man, i just got Seasons for christmas and i haven't even been able to play it yet because my Sims is on my external harddrive and I left that at school, so i can't even think about another expansion pack yet.

i really want to make my sims play beer pong, though. i wonder if they'll be some kind of "drunk" status. probably not, but that'd be amazing.
sky3205 9th-Jan-2013 01:20 pm (UTC)
a drunk status would be fucking awesome
to_our_savior 9th-Jan-2013 01:35 pm (UTC)
the sims medieval had a drunk status. your sims could even be alcoholics where they HAVE to drink at least once a day or they'd get a negative status
deja_vu822 9th-Jan-2013 01:41 pm (UTC)
omg i love it
metyouwho 9th-Jan-2013 02:18 pm (UTC)
My favorite ~fatal flaw.
evil_slayer 9th-Jan-2013 03:26 pm (UTC)
There's already a drunk status! If you get them too drunk though they get sick and puke.
unique_lilpixie 9th-Jan-2013 05:14 pm (UTC)
There are "juice" related moodlets from late night, like life of the party and going wild. The bar mood drinks have lots of associated moodlets.
ts231 9th-Jan-2013 05:35 pm (UTC)
i wanna put my sims on an external hard drive to play on my macbook but it's already installed on my desktop at home, do you know how i could transfer it without losing all my game stuff?
hannamez8 9th-Jan-2013 08:36 pm (UTC)
late night. but i hope teens can get drunk. it will be even more perf
violue 9th-Jan-2013 12:07 pm (UTC)
THIS YEAR IS GONNA BE SIMTASTIC

..
lovetherisk 9th-Jan-2013 12:07 pm (UTC)
Also Brooke Candy tweeted this earlier this morning. She is like my newest obsession. I can't stop watching her. I love a hot mess.
shinebrightest 9th-Jan-2013 12:09 pm (UTC)
I adore the sims games, I just wish they didn't need so much ram. It takes an hour for my game to load because I have all the current expansion packs.
violue 9th-Jan-2013 12:13 pm (UTC)
ive got some ram 4 u in my pants
violue 9th-Jan-2013 12:13 pm (UTC)
i want to sleep
saffronshire 9th-Jan-2013 01:32 pm (UTC)
Lmfao
fabouluz 9th-Jan-2013 12:14 pm (UTC)
Mte, thats why i stopped playing
vehiclesshockme 9th-Jan-2013 01:00 pm (UTC)
My game loads in about two minutes. I basically keep everything off of my laptop except for Sims. Everything else I run off of a 1TB external.
pdebevoise 9th-Jan-2013 01:53 pm (UTC)
I can only run one expansion pack at a time.
taecish 9th-Jan-2013 03:16 pm (UTC)
u can get 8gbs of ram for like 40 dollars these days (cheaper than this game)
I'M JUST SAYIN
_keng_ 10th-Jan-2013 01:10 am (UTC)
I have enough ram to run my game and any expansions. However, it's the fucking custom content that gets me. I have WAY TOO MUCH. I want to start playing again, so I think I need to go through and delete anything I don't love, which is time consuming.
hunty 9th-Jan-2013 12:10 pm (UTC)
omg so looking forward to this

i havent played since generations brb torrenting all the expansions that have been released since
vivifromff9 9th-Jan-2013 12:10 pm (UTC)
The Sims 2: University actually prepared me so well for college life hahaha
fabouluz 9th-Jan-2013 12:13 pm (UTC)
When i played uni life on sims 2 i would keep it on speed 3 for like an hour and just do nothing but term papers and assignments then befire graduation spend an hour finding a fiancee. It was so blah. lol
vehiclesshockme 9th-Jan-2013 01:00 pm (UTC)
Yeah I basically would use University for finding a spouse and skill building. This looks more fun though.
littlepunkryo 9th-Jan-2013 01:10 pm (UTC)
There was a cheat that would let you set the hours to go until one of the tests so I basically would let them fool around a little bit, set a test, fool around some more, set another test, etc. It wasn't very enjoyable for me tbh.
aya_sama3000 9th-Jan-2013 12:14 pm (UTC)
I'm getting University Life, no questions asked

my sim will be the college whore
vivifromff9 9th-Jan-2013 12:18 pm (UTC)
but of course, that's what universities are for
kahluaandcream 9th-Jan-2013 02:33 pm (UTC)
When I had the Sims 2, I downloaded a mod that gets rid of jealousy. Then I bought my Sims a frat house. It quickly became the Orgy House. Even without my prompting my Sims would WooHoo left and right. Boys, girls, friends, perfect strangers, everything was A-OK at the Orgy House.

When the Sims went back to their neighborhoods it was comparatively so boring.
nathanandbarry 9th-Jan-2013 04:58 pm (UTC)
lmfao
aya_sama3000 9th-Jan-2013 11:10 pm (UTC)
your sim sounds amazing and everything I ever wanted in a sim. tbqh
andres01234 9th-Jan-2013 12:17 pm (UTC)
I haven't been wowed by the last expansions/packs :(
vehiclesshockme 9th-Jan-2013 01:01 pm (UTC)
I love Seasons.
shop4peace 9th-Jan-2013 01:35 pm (UTC)
Seasons is the only one that really adds to the entire gameplay experience. Although I also really like Ambitions for the introduction of Professions, which is so much better than just sending your Sim to work for several hours of the day.
loverelapse 9th-Jan-2013 01:43 pm (UTC)
generations!
andres01234 9th-Jan-2013 02:51 pm (UTC)
I'm not a fan of professions, I like my Sims to be independent and I can't be arsed with following them all the time
malocudoviste 9th-Jan-2013 01:39 pm (UTC)
the only significant ones are pets and seasons (and world adventures if your computer can run the game fast enough)
_keng_ 10th-Jan-2013 01:11 am (UTC)
Although it's one of the least-liked expansion, I was really wowed by World Adventures. I absolutely loved how you could go to different countries, explore caves, learn new things, etc.
fantaesticbaby 9th-Jan-2013 12:19 pm (UTC)
I don't think I'll ever love an expansion pack more than the original Sims 'Makin' Magic' that thing completed my life.

Also I downloaded Sims 3 from Steam and for some reason it's sooooo slow and laggy :( It's not my laptop because it can play loads of other games that are larger fine, so I'm majorly sad that I can't play Sims 3 atm :(
sky3205 9th-Jan-2013 01:25 pm (UTC)
omg, I read Sims "Magic Mike"
classic_mold137 9th-Jan-2013 04:23 pm (UTC)
I would pre-order that.
fantaesticbaby 9th-Jan-2013 05:00 pm (UTC)
LOL
