From the fact that that's the endgame of romantic relationships. This body-less spirit wants a body so it can have a relationship. It tries to take this girl's body against her will. What else do you think would happen? That the spirit would claim a body and just kiss a guy with it? That's still horrifying.
I haven't read the book. I'm just going by what i know of the plot. How does it end then? Because in past posts about this book/movie, I haven't been the only one who's grossed out by what the premise implies.
I've read the book and basically the former host body is certainly the alien's bestie and helps steal another girl's body so that the alien can have a relationship with another guy . Hella creepy
No need to read the book. It reads like Twilight where it concerns at least the females sacrifising themselves for others. Dying for others is supposedly the most nobel thing to do. And so on.
The idea of an organism taking over bodies has some promise, but, this is Stefanie Meyer. So...
The alien doesnt want a body to have a relationship lol
Well the whole point is the race the alien comes from is horrifying and the human girl fights for control of her body and makes the alien go to a compound where her brother is.
main alien tries to give the human girl her will back and along the way develops feelings for another guy, who ends up protecting the alien/human from the angry human "resistance fighters" (who are not the bad guys but are obviously not gonna believe that the alien changed their mind)
It's never reads as "true love" or anything and the most that every happens is a kiss (which obvs is still wrong) and the alien ends up getting another body at the end that was taken over by an alien at infancy, so it never developed a human consciousness
I mean, it's not winning any awards, but it's not that bad a book
It just reminds me too much of that Dollhouse plot arc where this guy would rent out the body of the girl who rejected him so he could rape her over and over while the implanted personality was consenting (but the real one wasn't). Knowing that Meyer ripped a lot off of Buffy themes (as if her whole vibe doesn't read "ex-Marylin Manson 90s goth kid"), I don't think I'm over-reaching by thinking she drew on Dollhouse with her Host theme.
Ugh I hateeeee dollhouse...I was never into it but that episode killed it for me
But it's not really like that at all...there is a lot of romantic pinning in the book but no actual physical things between the alien and her love interest, because Melanie (the human) isn't into it
The book is like 50/50 POV between Melanie and Wanderer (the alien)
It's like invasion of the body snatchers if one of the aliens started feeling bad and helping the humans, w added cheesiness lol
that doesnt happen, you obviously havent read the book.
the 'body less spirit' has almost no sexual drive, or sexual intent and she doesnt take the body 'to have a relationship'. the 'souls' take over humanity because they believe humanity is destroying itself. they are peaceful people for the most part...they take over in order to repair. the souls always leave planets they inhabit, they dont intent to stay forever. that doesnt mean id want to be taken over though, and thats how these rebel human colonies feel too.
the spirit fights any feelings toward a guy the main girl doesnt like the whole book, and then at the end willingly gives her body back so she CAN have a relationship.
the book wasnt wonderfully written AT ALL, but the plot idea was cool...and you should probably read it before you start claiming this was a sexual being who took over a girls body with the express purpose of sleeping with other people against her will. that never happens.
