This movie could end up being as bad as Twilight, but at least the cast is talented (for the most part) and really attractive across the board.

Poor Saoirse.

She deserves so much better.
alaynestone 9th-Jan-2013 04:13 am (UTC)
At least this will get her lots of exposure. I mean, she already gets great roles, but this way she can make bank lol.
shh_im_a_ninja 9th-Jan-2013 04:43 am (UTC)
Is the person in your icon Joffrey? Because I hate that little bitch (just finished season 1)
lizanthemum 9th-Jan-2013 04:25 am (UTC)
I wouldn't worry, she most definitely has a long career ahead of her. I just rewatched Hanna recently and ugh that movie is fantastic and she was so good in it.
civilsavage 9th-Jan-2013 04:30 am (UTC)
i think the only role she was in that really gripped me was in 'the lovely bones' even tho a lot of people consider it a weak effort. conversely, i consider 'hannah' a weak effort despite everyone loving it but in that she was only "eh"... the whole thing was "eh". /fickleness
kindafunnysad 9th-Jan-2013 06:25 am (UTC)
seriously. she and juno temple need to find better agents.
shining_starsxx 9th-Jan-2013 07:11 am (UTC)

h0tfuss 9th-Jan-2013 04:18 am (UTC)
This movie creeps me out soooo much. The premise that an amorphous entity is fighting a girl over her own body so the entity can use it to be in love with (and have implied sex with) a guy that the real girl doesn't like is awful. That's not a love story. But this isn't surprising from Stephenie.
itscomicrelief 9th-Jan-2013 04:19 am (UTC)
And from the little I've read, it's also a bad book period.
bitterblueb 9th-Jan-2013 04:20 am (UTC)
Where did you get the implied sex part from?
h0tfuss 9th-Jan-2013 04:24 am (UTC)
From the fact that that's the endgame of romantic relationships. This body-less spirit wants a body so it can have a relationship. It tries to take this girl's body against her will. What else do you think would happen? That the spirit would claim a body and just kiss a guy with it? That's still horrifying.
dudski 9th-Jan-2013 04:41 am (UTC)
That's actually something that's discussed pretty extensively in the book, both between the girl and the alien in her body and with the guys.

IDK, if you're interested in hearing more about it I can explain, but really, who cares. I will say that I first read the book at a time that I was still guilty-pleasure-enthusiastic about Twilight and then reread it a year or two ago expecting it to be WAY more problematic than it actually was, but it's still Stephenie Meyer, even though I love it I'm not about to pretend like it's the best thing ever written.
cageyb 9th-Jan-2013 04:47 am (UTC)
From what I remember of the book, exploring the ickiness and problem of that conflict is a large part of the book's plot. Though obviously YMMV on whether the book handles that conflict well or not and from what I remember of the solution presented by the book, it's not much better.
judgmental 9th-Jan-2013 04:55 am (UTC)
what did you expect from SMeyer
noskidaddle 9th-Jan-2013 05:02 am (UTC)
the story is the creepiest shit ever. there's no couple to actually root for cuz everything is so skeevy
hells_hikari 9th-Jan-2013 08:36 am (UTC)
This skeeves me out too.

It's the same reason why I barely finished The Lovely Bones. Everything was fine, until that one scene. I almost threw my book against the wall. No no no no no. Not just that it was a weirdly sudden genre-shift (I mean, yeah, it's a book about a dead girl floating around and watching her family, but she was mostly just narrating. And then she suddenly is an actual ghost that can possess people), it blatantly went against what the book was about (sometimes, you die before you can make certain experiences, and we have to accept that. Lol jk, I'll have sex even though I'm dead already. Yolo? I live twice, bitches), and it was just all kinds of disgusting that she used another girl's body. I don't remember anymore how voluntary that was, but still, no.

I'm still so mad at the author for doing this. This scene really ruined the entire book for me.
ddulcet 9th-Jan-2013 10:16 am (UTC)
Jesus.. if this is indeed the case, then it's 10 layers of hot mess and EXACTLY what I would expect from Meyer.
gbeastly 9th-Jan-2013 04:19 am (UTC)
This movie is going to be really strange.
civilsavage 9th-Jan-2013 04:20 am (UTC)
only 2 things i care about with this are 1. i recognized shiprock right away in the first still and 2. it's directed by andrew niccol. i've got to be like one of 20 people that actually like his films... /csb
bitterblueb 9th-Jan-2013 04:21 am (UTC)
I like his films too, even In Time which everyone hated :/
civilsavage 9th-Jan-2013 04:23 am (UTC)
we have it on dvd. idk what's wrong with part of me. mostly the part that actually likes justin timberlake (idk... he's got charisma, you gotta give him that) and the part that likes niccol's brand of sci-fi. maybe it's because no one's bothering with the genre or at least not approaching it with the eye for elegance he does? idk. something's wrong with me, doc...
squirrels_oh_no 9th-Jan-2013 04:59 am (UTC)
I LOVE Gattaca. Everything else? Meh.
dancedallnight 9th-Jan-2013 04:21 am (UTC)
I guess it's been a long day because I read the title as "the Hobbit" and was thoroughly confused. Once I got to the pic of the car I was just like ok what in the fuck am I actually looking at
bitterblueb 9th-Jan-2013 04:22 am (UTC)
This happens every time I make a Host post no biggie lol
lizanthemum 9th-Jan-2013 04:22 am (UTC)

lizanthemum 9th-Jan-2013 04:45 am (UTC)
Haha yes! I love when people recognize my icon. When I was younger I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. THOSE EYES.

Not to mention, they are only taking over to "help" they have like all these amazing cures made of glitter and crap.
sadisticsidhe 9th-Jan-2013 05:03 am (UTC)
I thought that too when I read the synopsis. I was like "So they're yeerks...?"
benjuicy 9th-Jan-2013 05:21 am (UTC)
i love this comment
hells_hikari 9th-Jan-2013 08:37 am (UTC)
I think I could take it a bit more seriously if it didn't remind me so much of Yugioh.
akasha6915 9th-Jan-2013 08:58 am (UTC)
When i first heard of it was, "Oh, Animorphs but by a shitty writer and shitty love story."
celtic_thistle 9th-Jan-2013 06:46 pm (UTC)
Animorphs was what got me into sci-fi in the first place. I started reading them when there were only like 28 books in the series and they were just so goddamn good. (Ending notwithstanding.)
