For some reason, there's a Sin City sequel; JGL joins cast; Josh Brolin replaces Clive Owen

Yeah, we know. It was only this afternoon that we were talking about how hot Joseph Gordon-Levitt is at the moment, with franchises being thrown left and right at the actor. He's already passed on "Godzilla," and now he's turned down Marvel's "Guardians Of The Galaxy" for the chance to step into Robert Rodriguez's noir soaked world.

That's right, JGL is joining "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For," taking a lead role that was offered to Johnny Depp at one point. The actor will be play the character Johnny, a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game. Production is already underway, with Dennis Haysbert replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan, Jamie Chung replacing Devon Aoki, with Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, and Jaime King among those returning. Clive Owen is still expected in some capacity, and Deadline points to Bruce Willis reprising a role as well, but nothing official has come down just yet. Meanwhile, the site also says Josh Brolin could be courted for a role too.

Now Brolin is confirmed. Dimension Films announced today that Brolin has joined the "Sin City" sequel cast as “Dwight," the character that Clive Owen played in the original film for co-directors Rodriguez and Frank Miller. Evidently there's still one more big part up for grabs. The part of the titular “Dame” has yet to be cast.

"Dwight is one of the favorite characters from Miller’s books and the 2005 film. In SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to “The Big Fat Kill” (featured in the film FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY) and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face."

"Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and "A Dame To Kill For" is a defining episode in his life. We're looking forward to Josh's take on Dwight," said Rodriguez and Miller.

Glad JGL took this one and not the potential crap that is Guardians of the Galaxy :O

NGL, I'm glad JGL is getting a lot of offers and everything but I kind of feel like he sold out. He used to take really obscure roles and was really picky. Now I feel like he's just taking a lot of the big blockbuster type roles and isn't as picky.

Seriously. I love him a lot but is there a movie this year he hasn't been in talks for?

it happens to every up and coming actor..ryan gosling is the same sorta.

i don't mind it as long as they're quality blockbusters..(inception&Looper were good IMO), i hope he has a career like leo and gets to choose his own big movies.

Oh I know. He just had a slew of movies that a bunch of people have never heard of. The Lookout is a favorite of mine. He is fantastic in that. I hope he still does little projects in between the big movies

Really? Because he has made solid choices this year and that's why he's even mentioned for every movie for the next 5 years. Being mentioned does not equate being offered the movie. He is one smart fucking pretentious prince.

Yeah all of his movies this year were at least good. Even Premium Rush which I think is a solid rental.

I give him a pass for Premium Rush, because he filmed it 2 years ago and it was probably not going to get wide distribution had it not been for his sudden spike in fame.
