Lucas Till, Jeremy Irvine and Alex Pettyfer to test for the male lead role in Divergent

Summit is getting closer to finding its male lead for "Divergent" opposite Shailene Woodley, considered one of the more sought-after roles for a young actor.

Sources tell Variety that Lucas Till, Jeremy Irvine and Alex Pettyfer will test for the role later this week. Summit previously tested Till, Brenton Thwaites, Luke Bracey and Jack Reynor in November.

Veronica Roth's young-adult novel, acquired by Summit in March 2011, is the first of a planned trilogy. The story has a "Hunger Games"-like teen-on-teen violence in a futuristic setting and follows 16-year-old Beatrice Prior, who Woodley is set to play.

Neil Burger will helm with Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher producing through their Red Wagon banner. Evan Daugherty will pen the script.

Since its publication, the book has sold 1.3 million copes and is seen as a possible successor to the "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games" franchises.

Though no one is viewed as a front-runner at the moment, sources add with Till having already tested once, he may have a slight advantage against. The APA- and WCM-repped Till has been busy, having already filmed Relativity's "Paranoia" and "Stoker" which both bow later this year. He's currently filming Weinsten's "Kristy."

The WME-repped Pettyfer was last seen in Warner Bros. "Magic Mike" and recently wrapped production on Lee Daniels' "The Butler." The CAA and Hatton McEwan-repped Irvine is best known for his starring roles in Steven Spielberg's "War Horse" and "Great Expectations."

he's so annoying. i remember he was offered the lead in the mortal instruments and he turned it down because he didn't want to do franchises post i am number 4 but i guess since his career didn't take off like he wanted it to he's had a change of heart.

I actually like Jamie myself, but realistically speaking Pettyfer would have been better suited for the role of Jace. His loss.
