It's official: Taylor Swift and One Direction's Harry Styles have headed to splitsville

The musical lovebirds, who spent time vacationing in the snow and sun together over the holidays, have broken up, sources confirm to PEOPLE

News of the couple's demise has been widespread: the New York Post's Page Six reports, citing a source, that after visiting the British Virgin Islands together following a New Year's Eve smooch, Swift left by herself on Jan. 4

Meanwhile, a photo of Styles in a hot tub with multiple people, including Richard Branson, surfaced Monday

Reps for both stars have not commented

Swift, 23, and Styles, 18, debuted as a couple during a taping of The X Factor in November, and were seemingly inseparable after that. They packed on the PDA at a party in New York on Dec. 6, and spent her birthday together visiting northern England

Although the pair appeared to fall for each other fast, a source who knows Swift told PEOPLE of the romance, "No one is taking it seriously."

Taylor Swift, yet again, has some fresh material for a new breakup song: As rumored, Swift, 22, and One Direction's Harry Styles have split, multiple sources confirm to Us Weekly.

Things went south last week for the couple during a vacation on Virgin Gorda, the third-largest of the British Virgin Islands -- with Swift cutting the holiday short and jetting back home to Nashville.

"They had a fight," one insider tells Us. British crooner Styles, 18, "said something he shouldn't have . . . This [breakup] is definitely going to be for good."

"They are 100 percent over," another insider adds, noting that the "Red" chanteuse could be "intense."

Swift was first seen flirting with Styles back in mid-November -- and was photographed holding hands with the boy bander a couple weeks later. Before ringing in the New Year with a sweet kiss, they went on a ski trip with another volatile young couple: Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez

Not necessarily, but speaking for myself, I underwent a lot of growth as a person between 18-22 (college, basically) and I cringe when I feel like I'm 18 again.

I'm not hating on feeling youthful, but 18 doesn't seem like a good year to dwell on. 21 felt like a good year imo.

i've definitely matured and changed since i was 18, but i still feel that age for some reason. not sure how to explain. i suppose still living at home might contribute to that
