Megan Ganz leaves Community for Modern Schamily

No one is going to be surprised, come May, if NBC schedules the series finale of Community. It’s been through so much, with the loss of its showrunner, the loss of Chevy Chase, and the battles its faced with NBC over its scheduling and renewals, really, since the very first season. We should probably be thankful that i

got four seasons, as most of us were with Arrested Development getting three seasons on Fox. At a certain point, you just have to say thanks for privilege, thanks for fighting for so long for the fans, and thanks for the wonderful, hilarious memories.

That’s what Megan Ganz — one of the best writers on NBC’s Community, the voice behind some of the best episodes (the documentary episodes, “Basic Lupine Urology” — has done. She’s moving on, taking a staff position on Modern Family, as she explained to fans of Community o Reddit esterday.

For the last three years, the sum total of my contribution to this planet (in terms of effort, passion, and things I let myself go soft and pimply for) could be described as follows: Community. Recently, I was offered a job writing for Modern Family, and although it’s unclear what will happen with Community for the fifth season (or the sixth season, or the movie), I’ve decided to take this new position. Tomorrow is my first day and I’m excited and scared to start this new… well, everything. I’m sure the coffee will probably be the same.

This isn’t the end of me and Greendale. Community was my world for four seasons and my job for three, and has hold of my whole heart like a bad-news high school boyfriend. I’ll never really get away. The chemistry is too perfect and the writing room couches aren’t really that uncomfortable to sleep on and I just can’t stop writing for Britta. Plus I still have to do my editing pass on the finale. I think I left a box in my office, too. Bobrow probably misses me. Better stop by on my way home.

I guess what I’m saying is, it took me a really long time to write this to you guys, and it’s not even that good. Pretty sappy, no punchlines, kind of vague about my future with the show, too little excitement about the new gig, etc. Okay, so not my best work. Maybe I’ll take it down and not say goodbye just yet. I just need a little more time.

About three hours longer than it took Duncan to think up this assignment.

Well, that smarts. Megan Ganz has been a favorite here on Warming Glow ever since she provided us with brilliant interview last year. I also appreciate that she spoke to fans of Community about her departure; she certainly didn’t have to do that, but obviously the show — and the viewers — meant a lot to her, as she has meant a lot to us. The good news is, there are still 13 episodes of Community left, starting in February. Better still, Ganz wrote two of them: “Advanced Introduction to Finality” and “Paranormal Parentage.” Meanwhile, Modern Family has gained a hell of a writer, and we here at UPROXX wish Megan Ganz all the luck in the world.

Source.

I do not like the sound of this. So basically Community is dead. Long live Modern Family~

It would be utterly wretched by the time it hit season 5.

Best to cancel it now while delusional fans can claim it was unfairly lost.

I agree. The last season of Community was terrible, can't imagine what this new season will be any better.

Plus shouldn't they only do one year of school. Four is the max (even though I believe the majority of community colleges are 2).

You're 100% right, as usual.
