Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men. It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again! When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drums, there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes...Collapse )

As always, the previous three rounds can be found here. Animation looks like it's going to be an interesting race this year. Who are your favorites to win the big categories this year? Surprised at any pushes for nominations? Surprised at anything left out (there hasn't been a lot for just sound, visual effects and editing yet but I'm guessing when those start to surface Avengers will pop up)? Favorite performances of the year? Discuss.

kinda unrelated but how much is john barrowman is zero dark thirty? i feel like it must be a 30 second at best role.
missslet 3rd-Jan-2013 03:43 pm (UTC)
I want to know how much Kyle Chandler is in it. I have a feeling he's barely in it too!
die2nitelive4ev 3rd-Jan-2013 03:51 pm (UTC)
Barrowman seems the most random piece of casting
luvthatdrtywata 3rd-Jan-2013 03:53 pm (UTC)
that was exactly my thought. love the dude but he seems so wrong for this movie, i need to know what to expect going in.

edit: i just googled, he apparently has two lines in the whole movie.

It makes me sad that "Chronicle" isn't considered for anything. Seriously my favorite movie of the year and so underrated. It was such a fun and scary take on the kids-get-superpowers-through-comet story.

vehiclesshockme 3rd-Jan-2013 03:40 pm (UTC)
Easily one of my favorite movies of the year to be honest.
missjersey 3rd-Jan-2013 03:43 pm (UTC)
That last fight sequence blew my mind. I'm so happy I got to see it in theaters.
_dennis_csi_ 3rd-Jan-2013 03:41 pm (UTC)
I didn't think it was going to be good but it really was and I love it
sandstorm 3rd-Jan-2013 03:42 pm (UTC)
Never heard of it, but I'm interested now.
cluelessraf 3rd-Jan-2013 03:52 pm (UTC)
Omg, I totally forgot about this one. So good!
logan_lerman 3rd-Jan-2013 03:58 pm (UTC)
lmao i totally forgot about this movie

i enjoyed it more than i thought i would
allysouu 3rd-Jan-2013 04:00 pm (UTC)
Yeah this was one of my favorites of the year.
judgmental 3rd-Jan-2013 04:15 pm (UTC)
I really enjoyed Chronicle as well
safaiagem 3rd-Jan-2013 04:15 pm (UTC)
It came out too early. Everyone forgot about it. [clutches bluray]
la_petite_singe 3rd-Jan-2013 04:29 pm (UTC)
Totally making my top ten list. <3
theblackwidow 3rd-Jan-2013 05:19 pm (UTC)
I hated that movie because the main kid creeped me out.
drypumpernickel 3rd-Jan-2013 05:25 pm (UTC)
Such a good movie. Completely surprised me.
loverelapse 3rd-Jan-2013 05:41 pm (UTC)
dane dehaan and michael b. jordan just need to be in everything together? including me?
masquerade_07 3rd-Jan-2013 03:42 pm (UTC)
The Hobbit needs to win something even if it's just regarding Gollum because it was just so perfectly done.
blahblahcakes64 3rd-Jan-2013 03:44 pm (UTC)
TBH I've always been pressed that Andy Serkis got no recognition for his performance in LOTR.
ellyrianna 3rd-Jan-2013 03:48 pm (UTC)
Pretty sure he was pressed about it too. Like he was so annoyed at the small amount of recognition he was getting even that he was doing the role, like ppl all thought it was all computer, that he pushed for the ROTK opening with him out of CGI.
masquerade_07 3rd-Jan-2013 03:49 pm (UTC)
Agreed. He was beyond snubbed.
ion_square 5th-Jan-2013 03:21 am (UTC)
same. people don't realize that it's not a computer doing everything that he does.
la_petite_singe 3rd-Jan-2013 04:29 pm (UTC)
WERD. I will stan Andy until I die.
xandy_candyx 3rd-Jan-2013 05:10 pm (UTC)
yes!
shadowfax 3rd-Jan-2013 05:18 pm (UTC)
Andy is such perfection

drasticsigns 4th-Jan-2013 04:09 am (UTC)
Andy Serkis really deserves recognition for Gollum.
sookehhh 3rd-Jan-2013 03:44 pm (UTC)
The John Carter one is fake, right? Right??
justbolognese 3rd-Jan-2013 03:47 pm (UTC)

chuckisfuckis 3rd-Jan-2013 03:50 pm (UTC)
Yes.

starsremain 3rd-Jan-2013 03:45 pm (UTC)
So how do these ads work? Are they emailed to voters or just for fun?
ellyrianna 3rd-Jan-2013 03:49 pm (UTC)
They appear in mags like Variety and stuff, things they think voters will be reading.
pippopippo 3rd-Jan-2013 03:46 pm (UTC)
Just saw this on Tumblr and it cracked me up:

cluelessraf 3rd-Jan-2013 03:50 pm (UTC)
LOL OMG.
loveackshuly 3rd-Jan-2013 03:54 pm (UTC)
Lmao A+

Cackling at the Javert's Suicide with the stars.
darkwarrior 3rd-Jan-2013 03:46 pm (UTC)
TDKR and Looper don't deserve anything, I don't get the love for Looper at all, it was ill thought out, filled with holes and generally just boring.

The Oscars fucked over TDK and TDKR just doesn't deserve any of the main awards, so that's the last chance for a while of a comic film winning a big oscar.
ellyrianna 3rd-Jan-2013 03:50 pm (UTC)
Really about TDKR? I loooved it. Saw it twice in theatres and just rented it again with my dad and we were both blown away. I even cried a couple times. Maybe it's bc I haven't seen TDK prob since it first came out on DVD, but I don't remember why that one got all the hype (aside from the Heath stuff) or why everyone thought it was so much more deserving than TDKR.
darkwarrior 3rd-Jan-2013 03:52 pm (UTC)
Then rewatch it. It's a brilliant action thriller that juggles several balls and doesn't drop them with strong visuals and music.

TDKR's plot was fucked, filled with eye rolling scenes and a generous helping of stupid.
scientist 3rd-Jan-2013 03:51 pm (UTC)
ita about looper
logan_lerman 3rd-Jan-2013 03:52 pm (UTC)
i liked TDKR but it wasn't anything that amazing tbh. i think if it gets any noms other than technical stuff that it's not really well deserved. although, i did think anne and jgl were the best parts of it

i REALLY loved looper though. it def deserves a nom for original screenplay at least
la_petite_singe 3rd-Jan-2013 04:32 pm (UTC)
I really enjoyed TDKR, but it's not making my top ten list. Looper was interesting, but just so frustrating--it felt like two different movies, for one thing, and it played so fast & loose with time-travel stuff. Argh.
theblackwidow 3rd-Jan-2013 05:21 pm (UTC)
Looper was terrible and TDKR was eh
riookierin 3rd-Jan-2013 05:22 pm (UTC)
Tbh, I just can't get into TDK or TDKR. Actually, I got really into Heath's Joker, because he was just brilliant, but other than that, I found both to be so dull. :(
chuckisfuckis 3rd-Jan-2013 03:49 pm (UTC)
the real star of Looper

Joseph Gordon-Who???
ms_mmelissa 3rd-Jan-2013 03:51 pm (UTC)
He's so precious.
missjersey 3rd-Jan-2013 03:59 pm (UTC)
Great actor tbh.
logan_lerman 3rd-Jan-2013 03:59 pm (UTC)
cute and scary all at once
wauwy 3rd-Jan-2013 04:17 pm (UTC)
ia, he was the best part.
la_petite_singe 3rd-Jan-2013 04:34 pm (UTC)
He was so good that he made me hate him, if that makes any sense. No me gusta creepy kids in movies. DDDDD:
juniorquincy 3rd-Jan-2013 04:40 pm (UTC)
he and emily were amazing
tusiaczek87 3rd-Jan-2013 05:06 pm (UTC)
preach
sukha4 3rd-Jan-2013 05:18 pm (UTC)
This kid deserves all the awards
cluelessraf 3rd-Jan-2013 03:49 pm (UTC)
In my opinion, HBC and SBC were the best part of Les Mis! They lit up the screen.
loveackshuly 3rd-Jan-2013 04:01 pm (UTC)
IMO, it was this GQMF.

cluelessraf 3rd-Jan-2013 04:06 pm (UTC)
I'm not very familiar with Les Mis so his character did nothing for me. They did a really bad job with that storyline tbh, especially for people who didn't know anything about the story.
djtino224 3rd-Jan-2013 04:33 pm (UTC)
Let me have your revolution babies, Enjorlas.
la_petite_singe 3rd-Jan-2013 04:42 pm (UTC)
ACCURATE. I barely knew who he was (both character & actor) beforehand, and by the end I was in love. His voice was so perf. <3333
allysouu 3rd-Jan-2013 03:51 pm (UTC)
I'm so sad that Anna Karenina isn't going to get more love.
And after seeing Rust and Bone Marion Cotillard is who I'd love to see win. Granted, I've yet to see Zero Dark Thirty so maybe that will change my mind.

Also I love the Perks Ad, even if I know it doesn't stand much of a chance.
die2nitelive4ev 3rd-Jan-2013 03:55 pm (UTC)
Same at Anna Karenina, one of my favourite films of the year
la_petite_singe 3rd-Jan-2013 04:43 pm (UTC)
I totally stan Marion and I LOVED her in R&B, but I'm pulling for Jessica because she's also amazing in ZDT and Marion already very deservedly won.
joaniemaloney 4th-Jan-2013 05:18 am (UTC)
AK was fabulous. I saw it twice in theatres and enjoyed it both times.
ladysherlock 3rd-Jan-2013 03:55 pm (UTC)
I really like all of TDKR's posters so far
loveackshuly 3rd-Jan-2013 03:58 pm (UTC)
God, I still have so much to watch.
lissalynn 3rd-Jan-2013 03:58 pm (UTC)

Saw Silver Linings last night and thought it was delightful.

I'd like to see Beasts of the Southern Wild at least get Best Score. And Moonrise Kingdom should get something, it was wonderful.

I don't really feel strongly that Les Mis should get awards even though I enjoyed it. I suppose Anne should get hers.

I have still yet to watch Dark Knight Rises.
jackal_onassis 3rd-Jan-2013 04:00 pm (UTC)
I love love love the moonrise kingdom ad. I want it to win awards and Argo. idagf I loved that movie

side note, what's the gif from?
missjersey 3rd-Jan-2013 04:03 pm (UTC)
Les Mis.
seraphitta 4th-Jan-2013 08:45 am (UTC)
Argo's pacing was excellent!
missjersey 3rd-Jan-2013 04:02 pm (UTC)
Does anyone have a link for Moonrise Kingdom? I keep hearing great things/seeing gifs on tumblr.
