Jennifer Lawrence: Acting ‘is stupid’

Before you start ripping apart your Katniss Everdeen poster, hear her out.

"Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence said acting "is stupid" i Vanity Fair's upcoming cover story. But in her defense, the 22-year-old actress -- who i gaining a reputation r being quite irreverent and self deprecating -- was sort of making a greater point. And yeah, sometimes she sticks her foot in her mouth:

Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid... Everybody’s like, 'How can you remain with a level head?' And I’m like, 'Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.'

You see, it's just her way of staying level headed.

Some hav suggested hat such a comment, with just days to go until Oscar voting comes to a close, could cause the Academy to bristle. Lawrence does, after all, have the momentum of Golden Globe nomination nd a whole lot of Oscar buzz for her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook" going for her right now.

Lawrence regaled Vanity Fair with a few other zingers. Like the time she nearly used her bow-and-arrow on suspected home intruders. "I went to my car and I put this quiver [used in archery] on me and I had my bow and I loaded it and I'm walking up the stairs. And I look, and my patio doors were open, and there were guys working right there, and I was like, 'Heyyy, how you doin'?'"

In another possible foot-in-mouth moment, Lawrence noted how disappointed her friends were when danger proved not to be lurking. "They were like, 'We'v got o stage someone to break into your house and you can kill them!' That would be the funniest news ever. Katniss Everdeen actually kills someone with a bow and arrow!"

Kill? Funny? Hmm.

The young talent also revealed how she shoved her hand in Bill Maher's face so she could awkwardly gaze at the sight of Meryl Streep -- one of her idols. "I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, ‘Not now, Bill!,’ and I just stared at Meryl Streep." And no, Lawrence didn't approach Streep. She just stared.

Other topics covered by Lawrence's special brand of irreverence in the magazine issue include:

- The fact that she didn't go to high school. She calls herself "vastly uneducated" but admits to reading "Anna Karenina." (Hey, she has the best excuse -- she was working on a television show. Plus, she had private tutors.)

- Crying to her mother.

- Not being mature enough to buy a house.

- Getting "slaughtered" on the red carpet.

"Silver Linings Playbook," starring Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, is in theaters now. Lawrence's next film, "Serena," also starring Cooper, comes out this year.

Your only 'point' was 'shut up everyone stop complaining in every single JLaw post' which I called disingenuous because you were implying she's a victim ('hate brigade') as if she had done nothing to warrant the hate or bitterness.

WRONG. My point was that the legitimate anger at her comments regarding gays and trans-people has been turned into a sanctimonious circle jerk wherein everything she does is now fodder for criticism. In the Golden Globes nomination post, people were saying it was bullshit she forgot the nominations were coming out that day. The girl is shooting a physically demanding movie, on a grueling schedule, on location, yet those nominations MUST have been at the forefront of her mind! Ugh, she's such a dumbfuck! She says she loves watching reality t.v. and eating junk food, something we here on ONTD can devote 3,000 comment posts to, but because it's her, it's "bullshit PR propaganda to make her look 'down to earth'". God will she just shut her mouth already!
It's like, do y'all motherfuckers even remember what you were even mad about? These comments aren't any less petty, ugly and self-righteous just because she made some comments worthy of ACTUAL criticism in the past.

What she said was only a little over a month ago, nothing wrong with people still being mad especially as it revealed she has a history of such ignorance and her interviews after that showed how dumb she is in general. She hasn't apologised or even acknowledged her stupidity so why should people just ignore it and move on?

Then let people bring up THOSE comments--the things she said that people have valid reason to be angry about. Instead, they're twisting every subsequent quote she gives into something worthy of contempt in order to boost their own feelings of superiority.

Bigotry is bigotry, doesn't matter who it comes from.
People talk about people they don't like on here, often bringing up irrelevant things but at least for once ONTD was right otm so stop complaining that she's getting called out.

Except people aren't calling her out on her bigotry anymore. It's now schoolyard name-calling masquerading as social justice. It's bullshit.

If you want to stan in peace go to tumblr.

I said in my very first comment that I'm not really a fan of hers. Don't write me off as a stan so you can disregard the validity of my arguments. That's unfair and intellectually lazy. I have zero bias in this. I fully acknowledge how ignorant her comments about gays and trans-folk were--that doesn't mean that I can't also acknowledge that the conversation around her has stopped being about those comments, and has now deteriorated into one-size-fits-all outrage that can be applied at any time to any quote in any context.

The sad thing about this is that looking at my past comment notifications, you and I have generally agreed on a lot of shit. But I'm finding that more and more people are choosing knee-jerk reactions over balanced arguments so they can "school" people and show off how socially aware they are. I honestly think that's what happened here.
