Jennifer Lawrence: Acting ‘is stupid’

Before you start ripping apart your Katniss Everdeen poster, hear her out.

"Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence said acting "is stupid" i Vanity Fair's upcoming cover story. But in her defense, the 22-year-old actress -- who i gaining a reputation r being quite irreverent and self deprecating -- was sort of making a greater point. And yeah, sometimes she sticks her foot in her mouth:

Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid... Everybody’s like, 'How can you remain with a level head?' And I’m like, 'Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.'

You see, it's just her way of staying level headed.

Some hav suggested hat such a comment, with just days to go until Oscar voting comes to a close, could cause the Academy to bristle. Lawrence does, after all, have the momentum of Golden Globe nomination nd a whole lot of Oscar buzz for her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook" going for her right now.

Lawrence regaled Vanity Fair with a few other zingers. Like the time she nearly used her bow-and-arrow on suspected home intruders. "I went to my car and I put this quiver [used in archery] on me and I had my bow and I loaded it and I'm walking up the stairs. And I look, and my patio doors were open, and there were guys working right there, and I was like, 'Heyyy, how you doin'?'"

In another possible foot-in-mouth moment, Lawrence noted how disappointed her friends were when danger proved not to be lurking. "They were like, 'We'v got o stage someone to break into your house and you can kill them!' That would be the funniest news ever. Katniss Everdeen actually kills someone with a bow and arrow!"

Kill? Funny? Hmm.

The young talent also revealed how she shoved her hand in Bill Maher's face so she could awkwardly gaze at the sight of Meryl Streep -- one of her idols. "I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, ‘Not now, Bill!,’ and I just stared at Meryl Streep." And no, Lawrence didn't approach Streep. She just stared.

Other topics covered by Lawrence's special brand of irreverence in the magazine issue include:

- The fact that she didn't go to high school. She calls herself "vastly uneducated" but admits to reading "Anna Karenina." (Hey, she has the best excuse -- she was working on a television show. Plus, she had private tutors.)

- Crying to her mother.

- Not being mature enough to buy a house.

- Getting "slaughtered" on the red carpet.

"Silver Linings Playbook," starring Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, is in theaters now. Lawrence's next film, "Serena," also starring Cooper, comes out this year.

Ooo I feel like I'm going to wade into something unpleasant, but when did she make bigoted remarks?
scheisse 3rd-Jan-2013 10:48 am (UTC)
She was Ellen and told her how she named her cat Chaz Bono because she's a masculine female, thus implying Chaz is nothing more than a masculine female.

Also has referred to herself as a 'dyke' and made some mocking/dismissive comments about bisexuality (when she was doing X-Men promo)

I really think her main problem is that she's very stupid tbh

tbh I think she's just naive, not stupid. She thinks that she can say anything, and when you're in the public eye that isn't so. You have to be a people pleaser.
kwikimart 3rd-Jan-2013 05:48 pm (UTC)
No, she's stupid.
She has no idea what she's talking about, she knows what bisexuality is and what transgender people are but yet still makes dumb jokes based on horrible stereotypes and lies.
She's dumb.

She makes inconsiderate comments obviously without thinking them through... still I think saying shes "stupid" is kind of immature.
kwikimart 3rd-Jan-2013 06:38 pm (UTC)
LOL

If she was smart then she wouldn't have said that and she'd know to think things through first so yeah, she's stupid. I'm not gonna handle every dumbass that says offensive shit with kid gloves, I'll save my sympathy and gentle words for people that are actually on the receiving end of bigotry thanks.

It's stupid to think that just because someone is transgender that they aren't 'really' a man (the way Jennifer does) or that bisexuals are going through a ~phase or that if a girl like sports she's 'dykey'.
That's not 'naive' that's consistent proof of an ignorant attitude towards people that aren't cis gender or heterosexual.

LOL congratulations. You "win"

I don't really feel like wasting my time to type a lengthy reply, and nor am I a Jennifer stan. I do agree she can at times be "stupid", and I doubt that she is educated on most of the issues she speaks about, but overall, I PERSONALLY (personal opinion here) believe that she's not as bad of a person as people make her out to be.

You can continue attacking every person in this post that likes her now, because replying to this won't be worth your time.

what did she say about bisexuals?
redglare 3rd-Jan-2013 04:09 pm (UTC)
she refused to admit that mystique was bi and was like "well she's old so it makes sense she had a ~lesbian phase~"

also she made some really shitty remarks about jesse eisenberg's anxiety/OCD in front of him, like, "omg, you're quirky! i wish i was quirky like u!" and he was obviously really uncomfortable with it :I
withoutyoursmil 3rd-Jan-2013 04:54 pm (UTC)
lololol. she is so obnoxious
asherlev1 4th-Jan-2013 12:16 am (UTC)
*snaps head* what? what did she say to jesse?!

but lmaoo somtimes I feel like jesse's default is vaguely uncomfortable

Jesse Eisenberg admitted on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), that he has some quirks that affect his daily life, and that he has even more severe rituals he must perform before coming onto a show like this one.

It sounds like a form of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), but at least it's manageable, and it's good that Eisenberg is comfortable enough to talk about. What he probably would have never expected is to find someone who's actually jealous of his quirks.

Jennifer Lawrence was Jay Leno's next guest, and she immediately turned to Eisenberg and said, "By the way, you are the most interesting person."

Apparently while watching him from her dressing room she decided, "I want weird quirks."

While she was detailing her thought process in trying to come up with any of her own quirks that could compete with Eisenberg's, he quietly said, "You can have all of them," speaking of his own.

The last part just hurts my heart. Ugh.
himechi 4th-Jan-2013 08:15 pm (UTC)
d'aww.

i legit don't know how to feel about this. poor jesse.
asherlev1 5th-Jan-2013 01:18 am (UTC)
OH JESSE. MY HEART.

He's, - yeah. I mean, he's talked about all of his - idk, neuroses, I guess. And the thing is that he's always very open, but often times in interviews it does play to comedic effect - this one Conan interview is coming to mind. So I think while Jlaw could have been more sensitive, she was probably feeding off the environment. But that last sentence? Guh. That's so...raw.

I LOVE HIM TO BITS, though, I really do.
