Jennifer Lawrence: Acting ‘is stupid’

Before you start ripping apart your Katniss Everdeen poster, hear her out.

"Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence said acting "is stupid" i Vanity Fair's upcoming cover story. But in her defense, the 22-year-old actress -- who i gaining a reputation r being quite irreverent and self deprecating -- was sort of making a greater point. And yeah, sometimes she sticks her foot in her mouth:

Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid... Everybody’s like, 'How can you remain with a level head?' And I’m like, 'Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.'

You see, it's just her way of staying level headed.

Some hav suggested hat such a comment, with just days to go until Oscar voting comes to a close, could cause the Academy to bristle. Lawrence does, after all, have the momentum of Golden Globe nomination nd a whole lot of Oscar buzz for her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook" going for her right now.

Lawrence regaled Vanity Fair with a few other zingers. Like the time she nearly used her bow-and-arrow on suspected home intruders. "I went to my car and I put this quiver [used in archery] on me and I had my bow and I loaded it and I'm walking up the stairs. And I look, and my patio doors were open, and there were guys working right there, and I was like, 'Heyyy, how you doin'?'"

In another possible foot-in-mouth moment, Lawrence noted how disappointed her friends were when danger proved not to be lurking. "They were like, 'We'v got o stage someone to break into your house and you can kill them!' That would be the funniest news ever. Katniss Everdeen actually kills someone with a bow and arrow!"

Kill? Funny? Hmm.

The young talent also revealed how she shoved her hand in Bill Maher's face so she could awkwardly gaze at the sight of Meryl Streep -- one of her idols. "I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, ‘Not now, Bill!,’ and I just stared at Meryl Streep." And no, Lawrence didn't approach Streep. She just stared.

Other topics covered by Lawrence's special brand of irreverence in the magazine issue include:

- The fact that she didn't go to high school. She calls herself "vastly uneducated" but admits to reading "Anna Karenina." (Hey, she has the best excuse -- she was working on a television show. Plus, she had private tutors.)

- Crying to her mother.

- Not being mature enough to buy a house.

- Getting "slaughtered" on the red carpet.

"Silver Linings Playbook," starring Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, is in theaters now. Lawrence's next film, "Serena," also starring Cooper, comes out this year.

No one is perfect but you don't need to use that as a justification to dismiss bigoted remarks.
We only learn and become better if people show they have a problem when we do/say some stupid shit.
ONTD is perfectly justified in not liking her after some of the things she's said.
Anyway it's not like her career is suffering coz some internet folk don't like her so why don't you just relax?

I'm specifically talking about the people who drop into EVERY J.Law post--no matter how boring, benign or innocuous--to bleat about how dumb she is and how she should close her mouth.
Unless you're one of those people, you don't need to get so defensive.

Lmao how is it 'defensive' to tell you not to use that whole bullshit "we all say dumb things" excuse to justify her mocking bisexuals, using the word 'dyke' and making fun of a trans man?

oh

Is that Peruvian snow, Prince? Because you are responding to some stuff I didn't even type.

before the J.Law hate brigade runs in here to bash her for some shit we've all said at one time or another.

Do you just sit at the computer typing words without looking?

You called me 'defensive' when all I was pointing out was that it's perfectly justified not to like her or to complain about her.
st00pidness 3rd-Jan-2013 11:44 pm (UTC)
lmao that user is always so defensive

I see what you are saying; that no matter what she says or does she will always be defined in terms of the negative or problematic things she said. Not necessarily a bad thing and not necessarily a good thing either.

To an extent I agree, that sometimes people have a hard time acknowledging something positive or not horrible with someone they hate on. I don't really understand it, but some people will trip over themselves in order to avoid admitting that someone said something they agree with.

On the other hand, I don't think it's a bad thing to point out "hey remember when..." especially when it's something that is harmful or ignorant. Her ignorant comments on transgenders and lesbians were hurtful, so I understand why people don't want to give her a pass.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I completely understand the anger at her comments on Ellen. But now she could be talking about the weather and that post would be full of vitriol about what a dumb bitch she is for enjoying cloudy days.
Its so easy for righteous anger to stop being righteous and I think its gotten to that point with this situation

Ooo I feel like I'm going to wade into something unpleasant, but when did she make bigoted remarks?
scheisse 3rd-Jan-2013 10:48 am (UTC)
She was Ellen and told her how she named her cat Chaz Bono because she's a masculine female, thus implying Chaz is nothing more than a masculine female.

Also has referred to herself as a 'dyke' and made some mocking/dismissive comments about bisexuality (when she was doing X-Men promo)

I really think her main problem is that she's very stupid tbh
mioneste 3rd-Jan-2013 11:46 am (UTC)
tbh I think she's just naive, not stupid. She thinks that she can say anything, and when you're in the public eye that isn't so. You have to be a people pleaser.
withoutyoursmil 3rd-Jan-2013 12:53 pm (UTC)
what did she say about bisexuals?
ialmrnt5 3rd-Jan-2013 05:09 pm (UTC)
the last line.... so true.... no one cares if some basement dwellers think shes bigoted so keep calling her out etc. while she keeps snagging awards & looking hot in photoshoots

I'm not sure what you're saying here
