I think she's tried very hard to change her image, some of the roles she's chosen over the years are very clear playing against type choices, but she still has got a little Mia Thermopolis residue on her. Even when she's acting sultry / defiant / dangerous / bitchy, etc. all she has to do is bust out that giant cheese grin and I get Princess Diaries flashbacks or think she's ready to break into an embarrassing showtune - which is good and bad.
