SOURCE

The video is two weeks old but a gifset of this is just now making rounds on Tumblr and bringing a lot of new attention to it. Thoughts?

if samuel jackson dared you to say it, would you say it?
andieray 2nd-Jan-2013 03:51 am (UTC)
If I had someone yelling at me like that and demanding of me with a serious anger complex I'd probably leave, regardless of what they were telling me to do or say.

LOL batman.
ediesedgwick 2nd-Jan-2013 03:53 am (UTC)
ngl looking forward to the responses to this, because the last time I saw this kinda topic on here people were saying how they wouldn't even lip-synch the word in a song even if someone held a gun to their head screaming at them to say it and no one else was around to hear
aubade_saudade 2nd-Jan-2013 03:54 am (UTC)
it's just a word, i'm another type of minority from Europe, yr so America-centric, a black guy gave me permission, if it was historically accurate, if it's art, as long as I had a black friend, if I was from a certain section of the US where it's like totes mcgotes okay to say it, while singing a rap song, while saying the title of a song, if I was Gweneth Paltrow
demonsandsongs 2nd-Jan-2013 03:54 am (UTC)
no
swissbeauty23 2nd-Jan-2013 03:57 am (UTC)

gee 2nd-Jan-2013 03:58 am (UTC)
Anytime someone dares me to do something it pm guarantees I never will, so no lol.
hrhobo 2nd-Jan-2013 03:58 am (UTC)
no. omg but if he double dog dared me motherfucker?????? still no. i'd probably just fart myself to death.
takingthewalk 2nd-Jan-2013 04:00 am (UTC)
never. sidenote: he was GREAT in the movie. him and christoph were the standouts for me and i'm a huuuge dicaprio fan.
vanishingbee 2nd-Jan-2013 04:01 am (UTC)
no :/

I think the only reason to say it is reading historical documents/literature that includes it. Even writing it I use "n word" and am less comfortable with "n*"-- I only use the actual word if I'm, say, writing a paper where I have it quotations.
rolt_me 2nd-Jan-2013 04:02 am (UTC)
probably not, but there's a very stark difference between saying a swear word and using it to degrade someone or casually in conv. it's weird that people equate the two. which is why it boggles me when people get uncomfortable reading mark twain or whatever, or this.
oracularist 2nd-Jan-2013 04:04 am (UTC)
No
vampireweekend 2nd-Jan-2013 04:09 am (UTC)
def no

no matter the situation, i would not say it
sumlikeithaute 2nd-Jan-2013 04:10 am (UTC)
I'm black so it's not a big deal.
hypermuseic9 2nd-Jan-2013 04:13 am (UTC)
hell no
dottiehinkle 2nd-Jan-2013 04:18 am (UTC)
lol at all these lies in this thread.
supermishelle 2nd-Jan-2013 04:20 am (UTC)
I'm Black but if Sam Jackson ever yelled at me like that I'd probably piss my pants and say it.
paarycia 2nd-Jan-2013 04:21 am (UTC)
I'm half black.
I don't say the n-word irl because I don't speak English irl lol but I've used it online and I don't mind it in songs (by black people ofc).
That being said, I don't appreciate being pressured into lame ass dares nor do I enjoy being yelled at so the answer to your question is no.

If I were white, I would assume it was a trap by Sam so again, fuck no.

im black but I would just keep answering him with questions.
leatherandjeans 2nd-Jan-2013 05:00 am (UTC)
Hell no. Not even if SLJ was like, 'nah it's cool, you can say it, don't worry'. It's just not something that needs to be said.
age_of_green 2nd-Jan-2013 05:16 am (UTC)
To insult someone black, no. Singing along to Nicki Minaj karaoke in my living room? If it's part of the song, I sing it. Going "My N--" like a dumb 14 year old on twitter? No, it's degrading to the English language as well as black people.

If Samuel L Jackson made me, I'd squeak it before I'd start crying.

Too many SJW on LJ...
allopatric 2nd-Jan-2013 05:31 am (UTC)
No
nannerpuss 2nd-Jan-2013 05:39 am (UTC)

yourlivewire 2nd-Jan-2013 06:45 am (UTC)
no.
lazmy 2nd-Jan-2013 08:56 am (UTC)
i would. i've said it before. i don't scream it from the rooftops or anything. i say it around people that use it as well.
gagglefuck 2nd-Jan-2013 09:05 am (UTC)
I mean, it wouldn't really be a big deal if I said it, but I probably wouldn't if he told me to. No one tells me what to fucking say. I'd probably lose my temper, though.
leopard_legs 2nd-Jan-2013 05:17 pm (UTC)
if someone demands I do anything, especially in an aggressive manner, you can pretty much guarantee I won't do it.

I've sang it when songs are playing and I've got too caught up but I'd never say it, it's a word with such...I don't know, such history and anger and hatred behind it. White people have never said it in a loving way, you know?
aflaminghalo 2nd-Jan-2013 06:15 pm (UTC)
I would run away.

The only time I can say the word is when I'm singing alone to Oliver's Army by Elvis Costello.
