CNN Is Like ONTD: They Hate Things Without Valid Reasons

'The Hobbit' One of the Top 10 Worst Movies in 2012 According to CNN

CNN.com writer Tom Charity has posted his 'The 10 worst movies of 2012' and decided to controversially include 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' on the list. It should be noted, he specifically calls out the 48fps experience as being the 'worst' - not the actual film itself. Though he does take a dig at the length of the latest Middle-earth tome. The facts about 'The Hobbit' seem to paint a different picture: RottenTomatoes Critic index of 65%; RottenTomatoes audience rating of 81%; CinemaScore rating of 'A;' Ringer Review average of 4.5/5; Three week lead at the international box office; and breaking multiple December box office records. Looking at Mr. Charity's other films on the list, most have a RottenTomatoes.com rating of < 30% and only one breaks the 50% mark.

The dumbassery is this way Collapse )

I cannot deal with the stupidity of this writer. He basically hated The Hobbit because of the 48fps 3D version. What a FUCKING idiot. He just pulled the hate out of his ass cuz there was nothing else he could hate on. And there are 3 movies cuz PJ included EVERYTHING from the book and whatever else was mentioned of the Hobbit in the LOTR books.

IDEC. I enjoyed The Hobbit and I'm looking forward to the next two movies.

I don't agree with this article (I did like it a lot), but having seen the first installment, I feel very safe in saying this shouldn't have been three movies. Even with them adding the appendices, it felt puffed out, like things were being added for the sake of running time. Also since the LOTR movies are already made, it feels like the stakes aren't as high regarding the rise of Sauron.
katyperry 2nd-Jan-2013 04:17 am (UTC)
I kind of agree with you in the sense that some scenes definitely dragged, but looking back I felt that Fellowship dragged a little too? There's just SO much to cover considering they're trying to incorporate everything, idk. Also, even though we already know the endgame it doesn't necessarily mean it won't be epic. It's about the ~journey~
odontv 2nd-Jan-2013 04:18 am (UTC)
I'd rather have more stuff than feel like we didn't get enough. Plus, when it comes out I can always just chop that stuff out and edit it down to a 100 minute movie to watch with my nephews or something. lol
sapphirespells 2nd-Jan-2013 04:12 am (UTC)
kinda related but I just finished season one of Strike Back and I just want Richard Armitage in my bed right now, why is that so much to ask?
grande_latte 2nd-Jan-2013 04:16 am (UTC)

moonsenorita 2nd-Jan-2013 04:13 am (UTC)
That's just silly person reviewing, but eh.

Definitely jammed to "Blunt the Knives" earlier. I just love the beginning when they're at Bilbo's house
adigallia 2nd-Jan-2013 04:18 am (UTC)
I've been listening to Blunt the Knives and Misty Mountains endlessly. I'm driving my SO crazy. I love that managed to incorporate some of the songs.

So I found out today that apparently Bandersnatch is playing the necromancer, and I've spent all this time thinking he was supposed to be Smaug, I'm a little disappointed.
lucciolaa 2nd-Jan-2013 04:19 am (UTC)
He's doing Smaug, too.
missedith17 2nd-Jan-2013 04:44 am (UTC)
I am pleased to be informed of this!
hannahstarr 2nd-Jan-2013 04:19 am (UTC)

lol I can totally see that.

Also, she is gorge.
larrylurker 2nd-Jan-2013 04:16 am (UTC)
It was okay. It was pretty much the same as the other Lord of Ring movies but less luster and just not as good. "A ragtag crew is on a long ass journey for whatever goal they are seeking".

Plus, the giant birds could have flew them to the mountain and saved us a movie or two. That's my stance.

lol after the movie my friends all said the same thing about the eagles. We came to the conclusion that Gandalf is the leader and he's the kind of person who would make you walk everywhere because it builds character.
foryoursake08 2nd-Jan-2013 04:46 am (UTC)
in the book, the eagles are not very trustful of people. in the movie, they're just birds.

it makes more sense in the book, imo

I love the title sis
chidarkcy 2nd-Jan-2013 04:36 am (UTC)
I watched it in 3D 48fps, and I loved it. It was weird, like everything new is, but I enjoyed it.

I honestly don't care what this bitter man thinks. Neither PJ. Or most of the fans.
wauwy 2nd-Jan-2013 04:38 am (UTC)
lbr this movie was not particularly well-received much of anyplace. Just because ONTD stans it at present doesn't mean it wasn't mediocre as hell.

This ignoring of reality is embarrassing. SORRY GUYS.
grande_latte 2nd-Jan-2013 04:44 am (UTC)
that's the not the point of this
its coming up with a bitchass excuse as to why this movie flops and is considered to be one of the worst movies in 2012 which is totes wrong
wauwy 2nd-Jan-2013 04:48 am (UTC)
girl you are the biggest OTT stan of this movie so you're not exactly coming from a reasonable place here. Sorry.
meow_tan 2nd-Jan-2013 05:01 am (UTC)
but it has an 8.4 on imdb, a 65% critic and 81% audience rating on rotten tomatoes
its doing average-good with reviews, and critics aren't everything anyway.
devolute 2nd-Jan-2013 06:33 am (UTC)
mediocre is not worse movie of the year
bienenkiste 2nd-Jan-2013 07:06 am (UTC)
Obviously the old LOTR stans are going to defend this until they can, and while part of the fandom refuses to acknowledge the movie's flaws you can't tell me all the criticism is justified either. There are some valid points but there's been A LOT of hating for the sake of it IMHO (both here and in other places) which in the end isn't that much better than mindless stanning.
dynamitered 2nd-Jan-2013 04:40 am (UTC)
I don't know, but that picture definitely isn't swaying me to see this movie.
prophecypro 2nd-Jan-2013 04:41 am (UTC)
I heard it wasnt as good as the first trilogy but CNN is probably just creating a little buzz by saying its the worst.
foryoursake08 2nd-Jan-2013 04:48 am (UTC)

I just love the cast so much

potato_juice 2nd-Jan-2013 04:53 am (UTC)
The excitement in Aidan Turner's face in this gif. He's like, "FUCK YESSSSS!"
foryoursake08 2nd-Jan-2013 04:55 am (UTC)
lol ikr! they're just so happy!
