Russell Crowe Agrees with Adam Lambert on Les Mis

Just a couple of days since Adam Lambert critiqued some of the Les Miserables actors for “pretending to be singers,” someone from the cast finally responds.

Although Lambert complimented the actors on giving emotional performances, and praised many for stellar vocals and acting especially Anne Hathaway which he called breathtaking, he thought the singing was at times distracting and dislikes how "Hollywoods movie musicals treat the singing as the last priority.”

And it looks like he's not alone in his assessment - at least partially.

Russell Crowe responded to a fan's inquiry about whether he'd seen Lambert's tweets, stating "I don't disagree with Adam." He went on to acknowledge that the vocals could have been "sweetened," but that the director "wanted it raw and real, that's how it is." He apparently saw no harm in Lambert's opinion. (source)

Obviously, Les Miz fans were more than a little miffed at Glambert’s review, though to be fair we’ve heard mixed opinions about the vocal performance of everyone from Anne Hathaway to Russell Crowe since the first trailer dropped. What’s ironic about the whole thing is that Les Miz is basically the Adam Lambert of movie musicals: amazing hair, flawless wardrobe, maybe a little too grandiose but we’d all be disappointed if it wasn’t over-the-top. Even better? It’s not like Lambert’s apologizing! “Sorry for being so harsh but it’s so True!,” he tweeted. “I’m so glad we are all discussing this now! Look-I grew up w this musical and so my expectations are quite high. Didn’t mean to b negative.” You’re totally forgiven, Adam. Now what did you think of The Guilt Trip? Don’t hold back! Show Barbra no mercy! Rip Rogen to shreds! (source)

So, it seems the actor most criticized for his vocals doesn't mind the critique at all. Interesting.

idk I think I'd consider someone who's singing in a musical a singer. I mean, it's not like they took random pretty faces and threw them into the film, the majority of the cast were trained singers and had musical experience. To say they were 'pretending' is extremely condescending, especially coming from someone who is a dance/pop artist and relies on digital effects for his music.

There are a lot of actors who sang for one musical role who are not professional/trained singers tho, like Pierce Brosnan in Mama Mia.

I don't think pretending is a good word choice, but I also don't see it as condescending or wasn't meant that way. They didn't take randoms but they did cast more for name in some cases then for singing ability lbr. There's nothing wrong with that but it's still true. He excluded a lot of the main cast from this comment too.

Being in pop doesn't mean he's autotuned to the point of it doing all the work like for some artists. His live album sounds better then his studio work.

He was in the top two on American Idol... he's one of the few pop artist that doesn't need to rely on that stuff. That's like Saying Kelly Clarkson uses autotune... which isn't true.

I completely agree. Grant it, Lambert DOES have a musical background, having worked on stage in "Wicked."

I just feel he is being a snob and overly critical.

Except Adam doesn't NEED digital effects on his voice to sound fantastic. He uses them in his music partially because it's a label decision (pretty sure he's with RCA), oh, and he actually LIKES them.
