Fantasia: 'I'm Not Anti-Gay'

Fantasia Barrino caused a firestorm of controversy when she posted a rant referencing gay marriage on her Instagram account. Some fans thought it sounded very anti-gay but the American Idol alum insists she's anything but.

“I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!!,” the singer wrote. “It’s a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!”

Fantasia's rant was a reference to the criticism she's had aimed at her because she began her affair with her baby daddy Antwaun Cook when he was still married. The two became parents just over a year ago.

The angry response brought about a quick statement from Fantasia's management saying she was a strong supporter of "the LGBT community," and Fantasia herself got back into the fray, posting, "I, Fantasia Monique Barrino, don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged. The gay community is one of my largest supporters. I support the gay community as the support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.”

Sorry, a post/comment about homophobia doesn't need some straight person bawwing over a harmless comment.

I would never make fun of her for her choice to not get married, but her decision to tell someone to stop making fun of straight people (lmfao) is fucking annoying. Out of all the things to be criticizing in this post, that is not one of them.

She was not acting like an ally, she was acting like a fool who wanted a cookie and a pat on the back, hence the "I'm a STRAIGHT person but I'm not getting married for YOU PEOPLE so don't make fun of me omg" wow nhft

Why is her asking you to not make fun of who she is a bad thing? The biggest problem I have with ONTD is that there are groups who believe that if you are in the majority, that you are all the same and have no feelings. She wasn't saying anything negative about you and she wasn't silencing us. She was pointing out that you were making fun of her for who she is and that it's rood.

I totally get straight people are the majority, but that doesn't give us free reign to treat them like nobodies. My mom is straight, my sister is straight, my best friend in the world is straight... and if you spoke to them like they were nobodies without feelings in a conversation about gay rights... i would call you out and probably tell you to leave the fucking room. Being a minority doesn't give any of us the right to treat anyone else like shit... if anything you show how kind we are because that majority is who we need to show we are equal and loving... and you failed at that.

And this post is open to everyone including straight people, especially ones who support us and are here to support us. This isn't a gay forum or a gay club. It's not funny to me that you think making fun of straight people is amusing, you are only setting back gay rights everytime you do that. You create that divide where you act like we are different than them and not equal which is the opposite of what we need to be doing. It's embarrassing.

And so what if she wanted a cookie. You are practically begging for cookies and replies when you make dumb insensitive jokes. How about you don't give her a cookie and move on instead of calling her names and grouping her into the same group that also hates gays. Not all straight people hate gays and you probably made her less likely to show support next time she wants to.

Because no one was making fun of her. No one was treating her like shit. She made a comment about homophobia and frustration with homophobia about her and her "fight" for gay rights.

If you seriously think someone posting "lol straight people" is making fun of straight people, then idek tbh.

Don't worry, I'm sure she'll continue to show her support, so long as it gets her pats on the back and thank yous.

There were a bunch of comments in reply to that "lol straight people" comment that were rood towards someone like her. Wether or not you believe she should care because she's the majority doesn't matter because i'm the minority and I thought it was tasteless and rood. You all trivialize these matters and make it a joke and then don't understand when people are offended by you making it a joke. I have a lot of gay friends like you as well, I'm very used to hearing similar unneeded and rood comments.

And I could care less if you give her a pat on the back, because at least she's trying to give us a pat on the back. I'll take what I can get. I have a bunch of fucking cookies in my jar that I will gladly hand out to people who are supportive and willing to help us, so instead of calling people names and trivializing her support, how about you accept that straight people aren't really our issue... it's the christian right. Making fun of straight people is making fun of most of our supporters, including most everyone I know.

rood? Are you a fucking first grader who can't spell or are you ironically spelling it that way as a wink-wink nudge-nudge to acknowledge you're trolling and playing the part of a pos?
rctshack 2nd-Jan-2013 02:38 am (UTC)
I misspelled something... crucify me. Is that really more important than the point I was making? And why would I be trolling? I'm saying it was rood and that making fun of this girl wasn't needed. That's not trolling.

And how am I a Piece of Shit? What is wrong with you guys?

Late but I really like this comment. Props.

Thanks. I'm not a fan of being rood to people, no matter the situation and I really felt like it was rood to make fun of a group that we so desperately need to be with us on our fight for equality.
